  • 2 Kgs 17:24-41 : 24 The king of Assyria brought people from Babylon, Cuthah, Ava, Hamath, and Sepharvaim, and placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the children of Israel; they possessed Samaria and lived in its cities. 25 At the beginning of their dwelling there, they did not fear the LORD; so the LORD sent lions among them, which killed some of them. 26 So they spoke to the king of Assyria, saying, The nations you have removed and placed in the cities of Samaria do not know the manner of the God of the land; therefore he has sent lions among them, and behold, they are killing them, because they do not know the manner of the God of the land. 27 Then the king of Assyria commanded, saying, Bring one of the priests you brought from there; let him go and dwell there, and let him teach the people the manner of the God of the land. 28 So one of the priests who had been carried away from Samaria came and lived in Bethel, and taught them how they should fear the LORD. 29 However, every nation made gods of their own and put them in the shrines of the high places which the Samaritans had made, each nation in the cities where they lived. 30 The men of Babylon made Succoth-Benoth, the men of Cuth made Nergal, the men of Hamath made Ashima, 31 and the Avites made Nibhaz and Tartak; the Sepharvites burned their children in the fire to Adrammelech and Anammelech, the gods of Sepharvaim. 32 They feared the LORD and appointed from among themselves priests of the high places, who sacrificed for them in the shrines of the high places. 33 They feared the LORD, yet served their own gods, in accordance with the customs of the nations from which they had been carried away. 34 To this day they continue practicing their former habits: they do not fear the LORD, nor do they follow his statutes, or his ordinances, or the law and commandment which the LORD commanded the children of Jacob, whom he named Israel. 35 The LORD made a covenant with them, and commanded them, saying, You shall not fear other gods, nor bow yourselves to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them. 36 But the LORD, who brought you up from the land of Egypt with great power and an outstretched arm, him shall you fear, and him shall you worship, and to him shall you offer sacrifice. 37 The statutes, the ordinances, the law, and the commandment which he wrote for you, you shall be careful to observe forever; and you shall not fear other gods. 38 The covenant that I have made with you, you shall not forget; nor shall you fear other gods. 39 But you shall fear the LORD your God; and he shall deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies. 40 However, they did not listen, but acted according to their previous customs. 41 These nations feared the LORD, yet served their carved images. Their children and their children's children have continued doing as their fathers did, to this day.

Then Peter answered, 47 Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have? 48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then they asked him to stay a few days. 1 And the apostles and brothers that were in Judea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God. 2 And when Peter had come up to Jerusalem, those who were of the circumcision argued with him, 3 Saying, You went in to uncircumcised men and ate with them. 4 But Peter explained the matter from the beginning and described it in order to them, saying, 5 I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision, a certain object descending like a great sheet, let down from heaven by four corners; and it came to me. 6 Upon which when I had fixed my eyes, I considered and saw four-footed animals of the earth, and wild beasts, and crawling creatures, and birds of the air. 7 And I heard a voice saying to me, Arise, Peter; kill and eat. 8 But I said, Not so, Lord; for nothing common or unclean has ever entered my mouth. 9 But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God has cleansed, do not call common. 10 And this was done three times, and all were drawn up again into heaven. 11 And immediately there were three men already come to the house where I was, sent from Caesarea to me. 12 And the Spirit told me to go with them, doubting nothing. Moreover, these six brothers accompanied me, and we entered the man's house: 13 And he showed us how he had seen an angel in his house, which stood and said to him, Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter; 14 Who shall tell you words, whereby you and all your house shall be saved. 15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them, as on us at the beginning. 16 Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, John indeed baptized with water; but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit. 17 Since then God gave them the same gift as he did to us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; who was I that I could withstand God? 18 When they heard these things, they held their peace and glorified God, saying, Then God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance unto life.

  • Acts 8:5-9 : 5 Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ to them. 6 And the people with one accord gave heed to those things which Philip spoke, hearing and seeing the miracles he did. 7 For unclean spirits, crying with a loud voice, came out of many who were possessed; and many who were paralyzed and lame were healed. 8 And there was great joy in that city. 9 But there was a certain man called Simon, who previously practiced sorcery in the city and amazed the people of Samaria, claiming that he was someone great, 10 To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God. 11 And they regarded him, because for a long time he had amazed them with his sorceries. 12 But when they believed Philip as he preached the things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were baptized. 13 Then Simon himself also believed; and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and was amazed, seeing the miracles and signs that were done. 14 Now when the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them, 15 When they had come down, prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit. 16 For as yet He had fallen upon none of them. They had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 17 Then they laid hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. 18 And when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money, 19 Saying, Give me this power also, that anyone on whom I lay hands may receive the Holy Spirit. 20 But Peter said to him, Your money perish with you, because you thought that the gift of God could be purchased with money. 21 You have neither part nor portion in this matter, for your heart is not right in the sight of God. 22 Repent therefore of this wickedness, and pray God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you. 23 For I perceive that you are in the gall of bitterness and in the bond of iniquity. 24 Then Simon answered and said, Pray to the Lord for me, that none of the things you have spoken may come upon me. 25 And when they had testified and preached the word of the Lord, they returned to Jerusalem and preached the gospel in many villages of the Samaritans.
