18So then, God has mercy on whom he chooses to have mercy, and he hardens whom he chooses to harden.
19You will say to me then,“Why does he still find fault? For who has ever resisted his will?”
20But who indeed are you– a mere human being– to talk back to God? Does what is molded say to the molder,“Why have you made me like this?”

1The Illustration of Justification What then shall we say that Abraham, our ancestor according to the flesh, has discovered regarding this matter?
2For if Abraham was declared righteous by works, he has something to boast about– but not before God.
7What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Absolutely not! Certainly, I would not have known sin except through the law. For indeed I would not have known what it means to desire something belonging to someone else if the law had not said,“Do not covet.”
13Did that which is good, then, become death to me? Absolutely not! But sin, so that it would be shown to be sin, produced death in me through what is good, so that through the commandment sin would become utterly sinful.
32For God has consigned all people to disobedience so that he may show mercy to them all.
11I ask then, they did not stumble into an irrevocable fall, did they? Absolutely not! But by their transgression salvation has come to the Gentiles, to make Israel jealous.
2Now we know that God’s judgment is in accordance with truth against those who practice such things.
3And do you think, whoever you are, when you judge those who practice such things and yet do them yourself, that you will escape God’s judgment?
4Or do you have contempt for the wealth of his kindness, forbearance, and patience, and yet do not know that God’s kindness leads you to repentance?
18The Condemnation of the Unrighteous For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of people who suppress the truth by their unrighteousness,
6So even David himself speaks regarding the blessedness of the man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works:
17Therefore if God gave them the same gift as he also gave us after believing in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to hinder God?”
9and thus the Gentiles glorify God for his mercy. As it is written,“Because of this I will confess you among the Gentiles, and I will sing praises to your name.”
