And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow was there gathering sticks: and he called to her, and said, Please, bring me a little water in a vessel, that I may drink. 11 And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Please, bring me a morsel of bread in your hand. 12 And she said, As the LORD your God lives, I do not have a cake, but only a handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a jar: and behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and prepare it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die. 13 And Elijah said to her, Fear not; go and do as you have said: but make a little cake for me first, and bring it to me, and afterward, make some for you and your son. 14 For thus says the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, nor shall the jar of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sends rain upon the earth. 15 And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her household, ate many days. 16 And the barrel of meal did not waste, nor did the jar of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD, which He spoke by Elijah. 17 And it came to pass after these things, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, became sick; and his sickness was so severe, that there was no breath left in him. 18 And she said to Elijah, What have I to do with you, O man of God? Are not your ways unequal? 30 Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, says the Lord GOD. Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin. 31 Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby you have transgressed; and make yourselves a new heart and a new spirit: for why will you die, O house of Israel? 32 For I have no pleasure in the death of him who dies, says the Lord GOD: therefore turn yourselves, and live.
