So they came and stood before the king. 3 And the king said to them, I have dreamed a dream, and my spirit is troubled to know the dream. 4 Then the Chaldeans spoke to the king in Aramaic, O king, live forever: tell your servants the dream, and we will show the interpretation. 5 The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, The thing is gone from me: if you do not make known to me the dream and its interpretation, you shall be cut in pieces, and your houses shall be made a dunghill. 6 But if you show the dream and its interpretation, you shall receive from me gifts and rewards and great honor: therefore show me the dream and its interpretation. 7 They answered again and said, Let the king tell his servants the dream, and we will provide the interpretation. 8 The king answered and said, I know for certain that you are buying time because you see the command has gone from me. 9 But if you do not make known the dream to me, there is only one decree for you: for you have prepared lying and corrupt words to speak before me until the time changes. Therefore, tell me the dream, and I shall know you can reveal its interpretation. 10 The Chaldeans answered the king and said, There is not a man on earth who can show the king's matter: therefore no king, lord, or ruler has ever asked such things of any magician, astrologer, or Chaldean. 11 And it is a rare thing that the king requires, and there is no one who can show it before the king except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh. 12 For this reason, the king was angry and very furious, and commanded to destroy all the wise men of Babylon. 13 And the decree went out that the wise men should be slain; and they sought Daniel and his companions to be slain. 14 Then Daniel answered with counsel and wisdom to Arioch, the captain of the king's guard, who had gone out to slay the wise men of Babylon. 15 He answered and said to Arioch, the king's captain, Why is the decree so hasty from the king? Then Arioch explained the matter to Daniel. 16 Then Daniel went in and requested of the king that he would give him time, and that he would show the king the interpretation. 17 Then Daniel went to his house and made the matter known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions. 18 That they would seek mercies from the God of heaven concerning this secret, so that Daniel and his companions might not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon. 19 Then was the secret revealed to Daniel in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven. 20 Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God forever and ever: for wisdom and might are his. 21 And he changes the times and the seasons: he removes kings and sets up kings: he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who know understanding. 22 He reveals deep and secret things: he knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him. 23 I thank you, and praise you, O God of my fathers, who has given me wisdom and might, and has made known to me now what we desired of you: for you have now made known to us the king's matter. 24 Therefore Daniel went to Arioch, whom the king had appointed to destroy the wise men of Babylon: he went and said thus to him; Do not destroy the wise men of Babylon: bring me before the king, and I will show the king the interpretation. 25 Then Arioch brought Daniel before the king in haste, and said thus to him, I have found a man of the captives of Judah, who will make known the interpretation to the king. 26 The king answered and said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, Are you able to make known to me the dream which I have seen, and its interpretation? 27 Daniel answered before the king and said, The secret which the king has demanded cannot be shown to the king by the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, or the soothsayers. 28 But there is a God in heaven that reveals secrets, and makes known to King Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Your dream, and the visions of your head upon your bed, are these. 29 As for you, O king, your thoughts came into your mind upon your bed, what should come to pass hereafter: and he who reveals secrets makes known to you what shall come to pass. 30 But as for me, this secret is not revealed to me for any wisdom that I have more than any living, but for their sakes who shall make known the interpretation to the king, and that you might understand the thoughts of your heart. 31 You, O king, saw, and behold a great image. This great image, whose brightness was excellent, stood before you; and its form was awesome. 32 This image's head was of fine gold, its chest and arms of silver, its belly and thighs of bronze, 33 Its legs of iron, its feet partly of iron and partly of clay. 34 You watched until a stone was cut out without hands, which struck the image on its feet of iron and clay, and broke them in pieces. 35 Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver, and the gold were crushed together, and became like chaff from the summer threshing floors; and the wind carried them away, so that no trace of them was found: and the stone that struck the image became a great mountain and filled the whole earth. 36 This is the dream; and we will tell the interpretation before the king. 37 You, O king, are a king of kings, for the God of heaven has given you a kingdom, power, strength, and glory. 38 And wherever the children of men dwell, or the beasts of the field and the birds of the heavens, he has given them into your hand, and has made you ruler over them all. You are this head of gold. 39 And after you shall arise another kingdom inferior to you, and a third kingdom of bronze, which shall rule over all the earth. 40 And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron, for as much as iron breaks in pieces and shatters everything; and as iron that crushes all these, it shall break in pieces and crush. 41 And as you saw the feet and toes, partly of potter's clay and partly of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it some of the strength of the iron, for as much as you saw the iron mixed with miry clay. 42 And as the toes of the feet were partly of iron and partly of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong and partly fragile. 43 And as you saw iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men, but they shall not hold together, even as iron does not mix with clay. 44 And in the days of these kings, the God of heaven shall set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever. 45 For as much as you saw that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God has made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and its interpretation sure. 46 Then King Nebuchadnezzar fell on his face, worshiped Daniel, and commanded that they should offer an oblation and sweet incense to him. 47 The king answered and said to Daniel, Truly, your God is the God of gods, and the Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, seeing you could reveal this secret. 48 Then the king promoted Daniel, gave him many great gifts, and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon, and chief of the governors over all the wise men of Babylon. 49 Then Daniel requested of the king, and he set Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego over the affairs of the province of Babylon: but Daniel sat in the gate of the king.
- Dan 4:1-9 : 1 Nebuchadnezzar the king, to all peoples, nations, and languages that dwell in all the earth; may peace be multiplied to you. 2 I thought it good to show the signs and wonders that the Most High God has done for me. 3 How great are His signs, and how mighty are His wonders! His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and His dominion is from generation to generation. 4 I, Nebuchadnezzar, was at rest in my house and flourishing in my palace. 5 I saw a dream which made me afraid, and the thoughts upon my bed and the visions of my head troubled me. 6 Therefore I made a decree to bring in all the wise men of Babylon before me, that they might make known to me the interpretation of the dream. 7 Then came in the magicians, the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers, and I told the dream before them; but they did not make known to me its interpretation. 8 But at last, Daniel came in before me, whose name was Belteshazzar, according to the name of my god, and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods, and before him I told the dream, saying, 9 O Belteshazzar, master of the magicians, because I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in you, and no secret troubles you, tell me the visions of my dream that I have seen, and its interpretation. 10 These were the visions of my head upon my bed: I saw, and behold, a tree in the midst of the earth, and its height was great. 11 The tree grew and was strong, and its height reached unto heaven, and its sight to the end of all the earth. 12 Its leaves were beautiful, and its fruit abundant, and in it was food for all; the beasts of the field had shade under it, and the birds of the heaven dwelt in its branches, and all flesh was fed from it. 13 I saw in the visions of my head upon my bed, and behold, a watcher, a holy one, came down from heaven. 14 He cried aloud, and said this, 'Cut down the tree, and cut off its branches, shake off its leaves, and scatter its fruit; let the beasts get away from under it, and the birds from its branches. 15 Nevertheless leave the stump of its roots in the earth, bound with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts in the grass of the earth. 16 Let his heart be changed from man's, and let a beast's heart be given to him; and let seven times pass over him. 17 This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones, to the intent that the living may know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He will, and sets over it the lowest of men. 18 This dream I, King Nebuchadnezzar, have seen. Now you, O Belteshazzar, declare its interpretation, since all the wise men of my kingdom are not able to make known to me the interpretation; but you are able, for the spirit of the holy gods is in you. 19 Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was astonished for a time, and his thoughts troubled him. The king spoke, and said, Belteshazzar, let not the dream or its interpretation trouble you. Belteshazzar answered and said, My lord, may the dream concern those who hate you, and its interpretation concern your enemies. 20 The tree that you saw, which grew and was strong, whose height reached unto heaven, and its sight to all the earth, 21 whose leaves were beautiful, and its fruit abundant, and in it was food for all; under which the beasts of the field dwelt, and upon whose branches the birds of the heaven had their habitation, 22 it is you, O king, who have grown and become strong, for your greatness has grown and reaches unto heaven, and your dominion to the end of the earth. 23 And as the king saw a watcher, a holy one, coming down from heaven and saying, 'Cut the tree down and destroy it; yet leave the stump of its roots in the earth, bound with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of heaven, and let his portion be with the beasts of the field, till seven times pass over him. 24 This is the interpretation, O king, and this is the decree of the Most High, which is come upon my lord the king: 25 That they shall drive you from men, and your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and they shall make you to eat grass as oxen, and they shall wet you with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He will. 26 And as they commanded to leave the stump of the tree roots; your kingdom shall be sure to you, after you have known that the heavens do rule. 27 Therefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable to you, and break off your sins by righteousness and your iniquities by showing mercy to the poor, if it may be a lengthening of your tranquility. 28 All this came upon King Nebuchadnezzar. 29 At the end of twelve months, he walked in the palace of the kingdom of Babylon. 30 The king spoke, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for a royal residence, by the might of my power and for the honor of my majesty? 31 While the word was in the king's mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, O King Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken; The kingdom has departed from you. 32 And they shall drive you from men, and your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field; they shall make you eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He will. 33 The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar, and he was driven from men, and ate grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hair had grown like eagle's feathers, and his nails like bird's claws. 34 At the end of the days, I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up my eyes unto heaven, and my understanding returned to me, and I blessed the Most High, and I praised and honored Him that lives forever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and His kingdom is from generation to generation. 35 And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing, and He does according to His will in the army of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth; and none can stay His hand, or say to Him, What are you doing? 36 At the same time, my reason returned to me; and for the glory of my kingdom, my honor and brightness returned to me; and my counselors and my lords sought me out; and I was reestablished in my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added to me. 37 Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and His ways just; and those that walk in pride He is able to abase.

And they hated him even more for his dreams, and for his words. 9 And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it to his brothers, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars bowed to me. 10 And he told it to his father, and to his brothers: and his father rebuked him, and said to him, What is this dream that you have dreamed? - Gen 40:1-9 : 1 And it happened after these events, that the butler of the king of Egypt and his baker had offended their lord, the king of Egypt. 2 And Pharaoh was angry with two of his officers, with the chief of the butlers, and with the chief of the bakers. 3 And he put them in custody in the house of the captain of the guard, in the prison, the place where Joseph was confined. 4 And the captain of the guard assigned Joseph to them, and he served them; and they remained in custody for a time. 5 And both of them dreamed a dream, each man his own dream in one night, each man according to the interpretation of his dream, the butler and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were confined in the prison. 6 And Joseph came in to them in the morning, and saw them, and indeed, they were sad. 7 And he asked Pharaoh's officers who were with him in the custody of his lord's house, saying, Why do you look so sad today? 8 And they said to him, We have dreamed a dream, and there is no interpreter of it. And Joseph said to them, Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell me your dreams, please. 9 And the chief butler told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, In my dream, behold, a vine was before me; 10 And on the vine were three branches: and it seemed to bud, and its blossoms burst forth, and its clusters produced ripe grapes: 11 And Pharaoh's cup was in my hand; and I took the grapes, and pressed them into Pharaoh's cup, and I gave the cup into Pharaoh's hand. 12 And Joseph said to him, This is the interpretation of it: The three branches are three days: 13 Within three days Pharaoh will lift up your head, and restore you to your place; and you shall deliver Pharaoh's cup into his hand, as you did when you were his butler. 14 But remember me when it is well with you, and show kindness, please, to me, and mention me to Pharaoh, and bring me out of this house: 15 For indeed I was kidnapped from the land of the Hebrews: and here also I have done nothing that they should put me into the dungeon. 16 When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was favorable, he said to Joseph, I also was in my dream, and behold, I had three white baskets on my head: 17 And in the uppermost basket there were all kinds of baked goods for Pharaoh; and the birds ate them out of the basket on my head. 18 And Joseph answered and said, This is the interpretation of it: The three baskets are three days: 19 Within three days Pharaoh will lift up your head from off you, and will hang you on a tree; and the birds will eat your flesh from off you. 20 And it came to pass on the third day, which was Pharaoh's birthday, that he made a feast for all his servants; and he lifted up the head of the chief butler and of the chief baker among his servants. 21 And he restored the chief butler to his butlership again; and he gave the cup into Pharaoh's hand: 22 But he hanged the chief baker, as Joseph had interpreted to them. 23 Yet the chief butler did not remember Joseph, but forgot him.

Shall a man be more pure than his maker? 18 Behold, he puts no trust in his servants; and his angels he charges with folly: 19 How much less in those who dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, who are crushed before the moth? 20 They are destroyed from morning to evening; they perish forever without anyone regarding it. 21 Does not their excellence which is in them vanish away?
