O my soul, you have trodden down strength. 22 Then were the horsehoofs broken by the prancing, the prancing of their mighty ones. 23 Curse Meroz, said the angel of the LORD, curse bitterly its inhabitants; because they came not to the help of the LORD, to the help of the LORD against the mighty. 24 Blessed above women shall Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite, be; blessed shall she be above women in the tent. 25 He asked for water, and she gave him milk; she brought forth butter in a noble dish. 26 She put her hand to the tent peg, and her right hand to the workman's hammer; and with the hammer she struck Sisera, she struck off his head, when she had pierced and struck through his temples. 27 At her feet he bowed, he fell, he lay down; at her feet he bowed, he fell; where he bowed, there he fell down dead. 28 The mother of Sisera looked out of a window, and cried through the lattice, 'Why is his chariot so long in coming? why do the wheels of his chariots delay?' 29 Her wise ladies answered her, yes, she returned answer to herself, 30 'Have they not found and divided the spoil? To every man a damsel or two; to Sisera a spoil of dyed garments, a spoil of dyed garments embroidered, dyed garments embroidered on both sides, for the necks of those who take the spoil?' 31 So let all your enemies perish, O LORD; but let those who love Him be as the sun when it comes out in its strength. And the land had rest for forty years. 1 And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and the LORD delivered them into the hand of Midian for seven years. 2 And the hand of Midian prevailed against Israel, and because of the Midianites the children of Israel made themselves the dens which are in the mountains, and caves, and strongholds. 3 And so it was, when Israel had sown, that the Midianites came up, and the Amalekites, and the children of the east, even they came up against them; 4 And they encamped against them, and destroyed the produce of the earth till you come to Gaza, and left no sustenance for Israel, neither sheep, nor ox, nor donkey. 5 For they came up with their cattle and their tents, and they came as locusts in multitude; for both they and their camels were without number, and they entered into the land to destroy it. 6 And Israel was greatly impoverished because of the Midianites, and the children of Israel cried unto the LORD. 7 And it came to pass, when the children of Israel cried unto the LORD because of the Midianites, 8 That the LORD sent a prophet unto the children of Israel, who said unto them, Thus says the LORD God of Israel, I brought you up from Egypt, and brought you forth out of the house of bondage;
• Judg 6:11 : 11 And there came an angel of the LORD, and sat under an oak which was in Ophrah, that belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, and his son Gideon threshed wheat by the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites.
• 1 Sam 17:1-9 : 1 Now the Philistines gathered their armies for battle, and assembled at Socoh, which belongs to Judah, and camped between Socoh and Azekah, in Ephes-dammim. 2 And Saul and the men of Israel gathered and camped by the Valley of Elah, setting the battle in array against the Philistines. 3 The Philistines stood on a mountain on one side, and Israel stood on a mountain on the other side, with a valley between them. 4 A champion came out from the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, from Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span. 5 He had a bronze helmet on his head and was armed with a coat of mail, and the coat weighed five thousand shekels of bronze. 6 He wore bronze greaves on his legs and a bronze javelin between his shoulders. 7 The staff of his spear was like a weaver's beam, and the spear's head weighed six hundred shekels of iron, and a shield-bearer went before him. 8 He stood and cried to the armies of Israel and said to them, Why have you come out to set your battle in array? Am I not a Philistine, and you the servants of Saul? Choose a man for yourselves and let him come down to me. 9 If he is able to fight with me and kill me, then we will be your servants. But if I prevail against him and kill him, then you will be our servants and serve us. 10 And the Philistine said, I defy the armies of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together. 11 When Saul and all Israel heard the words of the Philistine, they were dismayed and greatly afraid. 12 Now David was the son of that Ephrathite of Bethlehem in Judah, named Jesse, who had eight sons. Jesse was old in the days of Saul, advanced in years. 13 The three eldest sons of Jesse followed Saul to the battle, and the names of his three sons who went were Eliab the firstborn, next to him Abinadab, and the third Shammah. 14 David was the youngest; the three eldest followed Saul. 15 But David went back and forth from Saul to feed his father's sheep at Bethlehem. 16 The Philistine drew near morning and evening and presented himself for forty days. 17 Jesse said to David his son, Take for your brothers an ephah of this parched grain and these ten loaves, and run to the camp to your brothers. 18 Carry these ten cheeses to the captain of their thousand and see how your brothers fare and take their pledge.
• 1 Sam 28:3-9 : 3 Now Samuel was dead, and all Israel had mourned him and buried him in Ramah, in his own city. And Saul had expelled those with familiar spirits and the wizards from the land. 4 The Philistines assembled and camped in Shunem, and Saul gathered all Israel together, and they camped in Gilboa. 5 When Saul saw the army of the Philistines, he was afraid, and his heart greatly trembled. 6 And when Saul inquired of the LORD, the LORD did not answer him, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets. 7 Then Saul said to his servants, Seek me a woman with a familiar spirit, that I may go to her and inquire of her. And his servants said to him, Behold, there is a woman with a familiar spirit at Endor. 8 And Saul disguised himself, and put on different clothing, and he went with two men, and they came to the woman by night. And he said, Please, divine for me by the familiar spirit, and bring up for me the one whom I shall name to you. 9 And the woman said to him, Behold, you know what Saul has done, how he has cast out those with familiar spirits and the wizards from the land. Why then do you lay a snare for my life, to cause me to die? 10 And Saul swore to her by the LORD, saying, As the LORD lives, there shall be no punishment happen to you for this thing. 11 Then the woman said, Whom shall I bring up for you? And he said, Bring up Samuel for me. 12 When the woman saw Samuel, she cried with a loud voice, and the woman spoke to Saul, saying, Why have you deceived me? For you are Saul. 13 And the king said to her, Do not be afraid. What do you see? And the woman said to Saul, I see gods ascending out of the earth. 14 And he said to her, What form does he have? And she said, An old man comes up, and he is covered with a mantle. And Saul perceived that it was Samuel, and he bowed with his face to the ground. 15 And Samuel said to Saul, Why have you disturbed me, to bring me up? And Saul answered, I am in great distress; for the Philistines make war against me, and God has departed from me and does not answer me anymore, neither by prophets nor by dreams. Therefore I have called you, that you may make known to me what I shall do. 16 Then Samuel said, Why do you ask me, seeing the LORD has departed from you and has become your enemy? 17 The LORD has done to you as he spoke by me: for the LORD has torn the kingdom out of your hand and given it to your neighbor, to David. 18 Because you did not obey the voice of the LORD, nor execute his fierce wrath upon Amalek, therefore the LORD has done this thing to you today. 19 Moreover, the LORD will also deliver Israel with you into the hand of the Philistines. Tomorrow you and your sons shall be with me: the LORD will also deliver the army of Israel into the hand of the Philistines. 20 Then Saul fell immediately full length on the ground, and was very afraid because of the words of Samuel: and there was no strength in him, for he had eaten no bread all day nor all night. 21 And the woman came to Saul, and saw that he was very troubled, and said to him, Behold, your maidservant has obeyed your voice, and I have put my life in my hand and have listened to your words which you spoke to me. 22 Now therefore, please listen also to the voice of your maidservant, and let me set a morsel of bread before you; and eat, that you may have strength when you go on your way. 23 But he refused, and said, I will not eat. But his servants, together with the woman, urged him; and he listened to their voice. So he arose from the ground and sat on the bed. 24 The woman had a fat calf in the house; she hurried, killed it, and took flour, kneaded it, and baked unleavened bread. 25 And she brought it before Saul and his servants; and they ate. Then they rose up, and went away that night.
• Ps 99:6 : 6 Moses and Aaron among his priests, and Samuel among those who call upon his name; they called upon the LORD, and he answered them.
• Jer 15:1 : 1 Then the LORD said to me, Though Moses and Samuel stood before me, yet my mind could not be toward this people: cast them out of my sight, and let them go forth.
• Matt 5:12 : 12 Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
• Luke 13:28 : 28 There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out.
• Luke 16:31 : 31 And he said to him, If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rose from the dead.
