    28 But the king of the Ammonites would not listen to the message Jephthah sent to him.

    29 Then the Spirit of the Lord came on Jephthah. He passed through Gilead and Manasseh, and he went on to Mizpah of Gilead, and from there he advanced against the Ammonites.

    30 And Jephthah made a vow to the Lord: 'If you give the Ammonites into my hands,

    31 whatever comes out of the door of my house to meet me when I return in peace from the Ammonites will belong to the Lord, and I will offer it as a burnt offering.'

    32 Then Jephthah crossed over to fight the Ammonites, and the Lord gave them into his hands.

    1 The men of Ephraim were called together, crossed northward, and said to Jephthah, "Why did you go to fight against the Ammonites without calling us to go with you? We will burn your house down on top of you in fire!"
