- Matt 15:32-39 : 32 Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I have compassion for these people; they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat. I do not want to send them away hungry, or they may faint on the way.” 33 His disciples replied, “Where could we get enough bread in this remote place to feed such a crowd?” 34 Jesus asked, “How many loaves do you have?” “Seven,” they replied, “and a few small fish.” 35 He told the crowd to sit down on the ground. 36 Then he took the seven loaves and the fish, and when he had given thanks, he broke them and gave them to the disciples, and they in turn to the people. 37 They all ate and were satisfied. Afterward the disciples picked up seven basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. 38 The number of those who ate was four thousand men, besides women and children. 39 After sending the crowds away, he got into the boat and went to the region of Magdala.
- Mark 6:34-44 : 34 When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So He began to teach them many things. 35 By this time it was late in the day, so His disciples came to Him and said, 'This is a remote place, and it’s already very late.' 36 'Send the people away so that they can go to the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.' 37 But He answered them, 'You give them something to eat.' They said to Him, 'Should we go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread and give it to them to eat?' 38 He asked them, 'How many loaves do you have? Go and see.' When they found out, they said, 'Five, and two fish.' 39 Then Jesus directed them to have all the crowd sit down in groups on the green grass. 40 So they sat down in groups of hundreds and fifties. 41 Taking the five loaves and the two fish, He looked up to heaven, gave thanks, and broke the loaves. Then He gave them to His disciples to distribute to the people, and He also divided the two fish among them all. 42 They all ate and were satisfied. 43 And the disciples picked up twelve baskets full of broken pieces of bread and fish. 44 The number of men who had eaten the loaves was about five thousand.
