    7Now, LORD my God, you have made your servant king in place of my father David, but I am only a young and inexperienced servant who does not know how to carry out his duties.

    8Your servant is here among the people you have chosen, a great people, too numerous to count or record.

    9So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between good and evil, for who is able to govern this great people of yours?

    10The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked this.

    11God said to him, "Since you have asked for this and not for long life, wealth for yourself, or the death of your enemies, but for discernment in administering justice,

    12behold, I have done what you asked. I have given you a wise and discerning heart, so that there has never been anyone like you, nor will there ever be.

    13I have also given you what you did not ask for: both wealth and honor, so that in your lifetime no king will compare to you.

    14If you walk in my ways, keeping my statutes and commandments as your father David did, then I will prolong your days.
