The Levites shall surround the king on every side, each man with his weapon in hand. Anyone who tries to enter the house is to be put to death. Stay close to the king wherever he goes.
The Levites and all Judah did everything Jehoiada the priest commanded. Each man took his men, those coming on duty on the Sabbath and those going off duty, because Jehoiada the priest did not dismiss any of the divisions.
Jehoiada the priest gave the commanders of hundreds the spears, large shields, and small shields that had belonged to King David and were kept in the house of God.
He stationed all the people, each man with his weapon in hand, from the right side of the temple to the left side, along the altar and the temple, surrounding the king on every side.
They brought out the king's son, placed the crown and the testimony on him, and made him king. Jehoiada and his sons anointed him and said, 'Long live the king!'
When Athaliah heard the sound of the people running and praising the king, she came to the people in the house of the Lord.
When Athaliah looked, she saw the king standing by his pillar at the entrance. The commanders and the trumpeters were with the king, and all the people of the land were rejoicing and blowing trumpets. The singers with their musical instruments were leading in songs of praise. Then Athaliah tore her garments and shouted, 'Treason! Treason!'
