    3Joash did what was right in the eyes of the LORD all the days that Jehoiada the priest instructed him.

    4However, the high places were not removed; the people still sacrificed and burned incense on the high places.

    5Joash said to the priests, 'All the money dedicated as holy gifts brought to the temple of the LORD—that is, the census money, the assessed value for individuals, and all the money that anyone approaches with a willing heart to bring to the temple of the LORD—

    7But by the twenty-third year of King Joash, the priests had not repaired the damage to the temple.

    8So King Joash called Jehoiada the priest and the other priests and said to them, 'Why are you not repairing the damage to the temple? Therefore, do not take money from your donors anymore but give it directly for the temple’s repairs.'

    9The priests agreed not to collect money from the people nor to handle the repairs of the temple themselves.

    10Jehoiada the priest took a chest, bored a hole in its lid, and placed it beside the altar, on the right side as one enters the temple of the LORD. The priests guarding the threshold deposited into it all the money brought to the temple of the LORD.

    11Whenever they saw there was a lot of money in the chest, the king’s scribe and the high priest would come, count the money that had been brought to the temple of the LORD, and put it into bags.

    12They would give the prepared money to the workers appointed to oversee the repairs to the temple of the LORD. They used it to pay the carpenters and builders working on the temple of the LORD,

    13the masons and stonecutters, and to purchase timber and cut stone for repairing the damage to the temple of the LORD, as well as to cover all other costs related to the temple repairs.

    14However, no silver basins, snuffers, bowls, trumpets, or any gold or silver vessels were made from the money brought to the temple of the LORD.

    15Instead, they gave the money to the workers, who used it to repair the temple of the LORD.

    9They went to Hilkiah the high priest and gave him the money that had been brought to the house of God, which the Levites, the gatekeepers, had collected from Manasseh, Ephraim, and the remnant of Israel, as well as all Judah, Benjamin, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
