  • Job 8:13-19 : 13 Such is the fate of all who forget God; the hope of the godless will perish. 14 Their confidence is easily cut off, and their trust is like a spider's web. 15 They lean on their house, but it does not stand; they grasp it, but it does not hold firm. 16 They are green before the sun, and their shoots spread out over the garden. 17 Their roots are entwined around a heap of rocks; they look for a home among the stones. 18 But if they are uprooted from their place, that place will deny them, saying, 'I never saw you.' 19 Surely this is the joy of their way, and out of the dust, others will spring up.
  • Job 21:7-9 : 7 Why do the wicked live on, grow old, and increase in power? 8 Their children are established in their presence, and their offspring before their eyes. 9 Their homes are safe from fear, and no rod of God is upon them. 10 Their bulls breed without failure; their cows give birth and do not miscarry. 11 They release their young like a flock, and their children skip about. 12 They sing to the tambourine and lyre and rejoice to the sound of the flute. 13 They spend their days in prosperity, and in a moment they go down to Sheol. 14 Yet they say to God, 'Depart from us! We have no desire to know your ways.' 15 What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? What would we profit if we entreat him? 16 But their prosperity is not in their own hands, so the counsel of the wicked is far from me. 17 How often is the lamp of the wicked extinguished? Disaster comes upon them as calamities God apportions in his anger.
  • Ps 73:3-9 : 3 For I envied the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked. 4 They have no struggles; their bodies are healthy and strong. 5 They are free from common human burdens; they are not plagued by human ills. 6 Therefore, pride is their necklace; violence clothes them like a garment. 7 Their eyes bulge from fatness; their imaginations overflow with malice. 8 They scoff and speak with malice; with arrogance, they threaten oppression. 9 They set their mouths against the heavens, and their tongues strut through the earth. 10 Therefore His people turn to them and drink up waters in abundance. 11 They say, 'How does God know? Is there knowledge in the Most High?'
  • Isa 14:14-19 : 14 I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High. 15 But you will be brought down to Sheol, to the depths of the pit. 16 Those who see you will stare at you; they will contemplate you, saying, 'Is this the man who made the earth tremble and shook the kingdoms?' 17 Who made the world a desert and destroyed its cities, who refused to release his prisoners to their homes?' 18 All the kings of the nations lie in glory, each in his own tomb, 19 but you are cast out of your grave like a rejected branch, clothed with the slain, those pierced by the sword, who go down to the stones of the pit, like a corpse trampled underfoot.
  • Ezek 31:6-9 : 6 All the birds of the sky nested in its branches, every beast of the field gave birth under its boughs, and all the great nations lived in its shade. 7 It was majestic in its size, with long branches, because its roots reached abundant waters. 8 The cedars in God's garden could not rival it; the cypresses could not compare to its branches, and the plane trees were not like its boughs. No tree in the garden of God was equal to it in beauty. 9 I made it beautiful with its many branches, and all the trees of Eden, which were in the garden of God, envied it. 10 Therefore, this is what the Lord GOD says: Because it grew tall, lifting its top among the clouds, and its heart became arrogant because of its height,
  • Ezek 31:18 : 18 To whom can you be compared in glory and greatness among the trees of Eden? Yet you too will be brought down to the lower earth, lying among the uncircumcised, with those slain by the sword. This is Pharaoh and all his hordes, declares the Lord GOD.
  • Dan 4:20-33 : 20 And you saw a watcher, a holy one, coming down from heaven and saying: ‘Cut down the tree and destroy it, but leave the stump with its roots bound with iron and bronze in the tender grass of the field. Let it be drenched with the dew of heaven, and let it live with the animals of the field until seven periods of time pass over it.’ 21 This is the interpretation, O king, and this is the decree of the Most High that has come upon my lord the king: 22 You will be driven away from people, and you will live with the wild animals. You will eat grass like cattle and be drenched with the dew of heaven. Seven times will pass over you until you acknowledge that the Most High is sovereign over the kingdoms of men and gives them to whomever He chooses. 23 The command to leave the stump with its roots means that your kingdom will be restored to you when you acknowledge that Heaven rules. 24 Therefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable to you: Break off your sins by pursuing righteousness, and your iniquities by showing mercy to the oppressed. Perhaps there will be a lengthening of your prosperity. 25 All this happened to King Nebuchadnezzar. 26 At the end of twelve months, as he was walking on the roof of the royal palace of Babylon, 27 the king said, "Is not this the great Babylon which I have built as a royal residence by my mighty power and for the glory of my majesty?" 28 Even as the words were on the king's lips, a voice came from heaven: ‘O King Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is declared: The kingdom has departed from you!' 29 You will be driven away from people, and your dwelling will be with the wild animals. You will eat grass like cattle, and seven times will pass over you until you acknowledge that the Most High is sovereign over the kingdoms of men and gives them to whomever He pleases. 30 Immediately, what was spoken about Nebuchadnezzar was fulfilled. He was driven away from people, ate grass like cattle, and his body was drenched with the dew of heaven until his hair grew like the feathers of an eagle and his nails like the claws of a bird. 31 At the end of that time, I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to heaven, and my understanding returned to me. I praised the Most High, honored, and glorified Him who lives forever: His dominion is an everlasting dominion, and His kingdom endures from generation to generation. 32 All the inhabitants of the earth are regarded as nothing. He does as He pleases with the army of heaven and the inhabitants of the earth. No one can restrain His hand or say to Him, 'What have You done?' 33 At the same time, my understanding returned to me. My honor and splendor were restored to me for the glory of my kingdom. My counselors and nobles sought me out, and I was reestablished in my kingdom, and even greater greatness was added to me.
  • Esth 5:11 : 11 Haman recounted to them the splendor of his wealth, the number of his sons, and all the ways the king had honored him and how he had elevated him above the officials and servants of the king.
