    10 Go and tell David, saying, Thus says the LORD, I offer you three things: choose one of them, that I may do it to you.

    11 So Gad came to David, and said to him, Thus says the LORD, Choose

    12 Either three years of famine; or three months to be defeated before your foes, while the sword of your enemies overtakes you; or else three days of the sword of the LORD, even the pestilence, in the land, and the angel of the LORD destroying throughout all the territory of Israel. Now therefore decide what word I shall bring back to him who sent me.

    17 And David spoke to the LORD when he saw the angel who struck the people, and said, Behold, I have sinned, and I have done wickedly: but these sheep, what have they done? let Your hand, I pray You, be against me, and against my father's house.

    18 And Gad came that day to David, and said to him, Go up, erect an altar to the LORD in the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.

    20 Now, therefore, do not let my blood fall to the earth before the face of the LORD, for the king of Israel has come out to seek a flea, as when one hunts a partridge in the mountains."

    21 Then Saul said, "I have sinned. Return, my son David, for I will harm you no more because my life was precious in your eyes this day. Behold, I have played the fool and have erred exceedingly."
