12 Your mother shall be greatly ashamed; she that bore you shall be confounded: behold, the hindermost of the nations shall be a wilderness, a dry land, and a desert. 13 Because of the wrath of the LORD it shall not be inhabited, but it shall be utterly desolate: everyone who passes by Babylon shall be astonished, and hiss at all her plagues. 14 Put yourselves in battle array against Babylon all around: all you that bend the bow, shoot at her, spare no arrows: for she has sinned against the LORD. 15 Shout against her all around: she has surrendered: her foundations are fallen, her walls are thrown down: for it is the vengeance of the LORD: take vengeance upon her; as she has done, do unto her. 16 Cut off the sower from Babylon, and him that handles the sickle in the harvest time: for fear of the oppressing sword everyone shall turn to his own people, and they shall flee to their own land. 17 Israel is a scattered sheep; the lions have driven them away: first the king of Assyria has devoured him; and last this Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has broken his bones. 18 Therefore thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will punish the king of Babylon and his land, as I have punished the king of Assyria. 19 And I will bring Israel again to his dwelling place, and he shall feed on Carmel and Bashan, and his soul shall be satisfied on Mount Ephraim and Gilead. 20 In those days and at that time, says the LORD, the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none; and the sins of Judah, and they shall not be found: for I will pardon those whom I reserve. 21 Go up against the land of Merathaim, against it, and against the inhabitants of Pekod: waste and utterly destroy after them, says the LORD, and do according to all that I have commanded you. 22 A sound of battle is in the land, and of great destruction. 23 How the hammer of the whole earth is cut apart and broken! how Babylon has become a desolation among the nations! 24 I have set a trap for you, and you are also caught, O Babylon, and you were not aware: you are found, and also caught, because you have fought against the LORD. 25 The LORD has opened his armory, and has brought forth the weapons of his indignation: for this is the work of the Lord GOD of hosts in the land of the Chaldeans. 26 Come against her from the furthest border, open her storehouses: pile her up as heaps, and utterly destroy her: let nothing of her be left. 27 Slay all her bulls; let them go down to the slaughter: woe unto them! for their day is come, the time of their visitation. 28 The voice of those who flee and escape from the land of Babylon, to declare in Zion the vengeance of the LORD our God, the vengeance of his temple. 29 Call together the archers against Babylon: all you that bend the bow, camp against it all around; let none of them escape: repay her according to her work; according to all that she has done, do unto her: for she has been proud against the LORD, against the Holy One of Israel. 30 Therefore her young men shall fall in the streets, and all her men of war shall be cut off in that day, says the LORD. 31 Behold, I am against you, O most proud, says the Lord GOD of hosts: for your day has come, the time that I will visit you. 32 And the most proud shall stumble and fall, and none shall help him up: and I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it shall devour all around him. 33 Thus says the LORD of hosts; The children of Israel and the children of Judah were oppressed together: and all who took them captives held them fast; they refused to let them go. 34 Their Redeemer is strong; the LORD of hosts is his name: he shall thoroughly plead their cause, that he may give rest to the land, and disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon. 35 A sword is upon the Chaldeans, says the LORD, and upon the inhabitants of Babylon, and upon her princes, and upon her wise men. 36 A sword is upon the liars; and they shall turn foolish: a sword is upon her mighty men; and they shall be dismayed. 37 A sword is upon their horses, and upon their chariots, and upon all the mixed people that are in the midst of her; and they shall become like women: a sword is upon her treasures; and they shall be robbed. 38 A drought is upon her waters; and they shall be dried up: for it is the land of carved images, and they are mad upon their idols. 39 Therefore the wild beasts of the desert with the wild beasts of the islands shall dwell there, and the owls shall dwell therein: and it shall be no more inhabited forever; neither shall it be lived in from generation to generation. 40 As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and their neighboring cities, says the LORD; so shall no man dwell there, neither shall any son of man live there. 41 Behold, a people shall come from the north, and a great nation, and many kings shall be raised up from the ends of the earth. 42 They shall hold the bow and the spear: they are cruel, and will show no mercy: their voice shall roar like the sea, and they shall ride upon horses, every one set in order, like a man to the battle, against you, O daughter of Babylon. 43 The king of Babylon has heard the report of them, and his hands grew feeble: anguish took hold of him, and pangs as of a woman in labor. 44 Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan against the dwelling of the strong: but I will suddenly make them run away from her: and who is a chosen man, that I may appoint over her? for who is like me? and who will appoint me the time? and who is that shepherd who will stand before me? 45 Therefore hear the counsel of the LORD, that he has taken against Babylon; and his purposes, that he has purposed against the land of the Chaldeans: Surely the least of the flock shall drag them out: surely he shall make their dwelling desolate with them. 46 At the noise of the capture of Babylon the earth is moved, and the cry is heard among the nations. 1 Thus says the LORD: Behold, I will raise up against Babylon, and against those who dwell in the midst of those who rise up against Me, a destroying wind; 2 And I will send to Babylon winnowers, who shall winnow her and empty her land; for in the day of trouble, they shall be against her all around. 3 Against him who bends let the archer bend his bow, and against him who lifts himself up in his armor; and do not spare her young men; utterly destroy all her army. 4 Thus the slain shall fall in the land of the Chaldeans, and those thrust through in her streets. 5 For Israel has not been forsaken, nor Judah of his God, of the LORD of hosts; though their land was filled with sin against the Holy One of Israel. 6 Flee out of the midst of Babylon, and deliver every man his soul; be not cut off in her iniquity; for this is the time of the LORD's vengeance; He will render to her a recompense. 7 Babylon has been a golden cup in the LORD's hand, that made all the earth drunk; the nations have drunk of her wine; therefore the nations are mad. 8 Babylon is suddenly fallen and destroyed; howl for her, take balm for her pain, if perhaps she may be healed. 9 We would have healed Babylon, but she cannot be healed; forsake her, and let us go everyone into his own country, for her judgment reaches unto heaven and is lifted up even to the skies. 10 The LORD has brought forth our righteousness; come, and let us declare in Zion the work of the LORD our God. 11 Polish the arrows; gather the shields; the LORD has raised up the spirit of the kings of the Medes, for His plan is against Babylon, to destroy it; because it is the vengeance of the LORD, the vengeance of His temple. 12 Set up the banner upon the walls of Babylon, make the watch strong, set up the watchmen, prepare the ambushes; for the LORD has both devised and done what He spoke against the inhabitants of Babylon. 13 You who dwell upon many waters, abundant in treasures, your end has come, and the measure of your covetousness. 14 The LORD of hosts has sworn by Himself, saying, Surely I will fill you with men, as with locusts; and they shall lift up a shout against you. 15 He has made the earth by His power, He has established the world by His wisdom, and stretched out the heavens by His understanding. 16 When He utters His voice, there is a multitude of waters in the heavens; He causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; He makes lightnings with rain, and brings forth the wind out of His treasures. 17 Every man is senseless by his knowledge; every craftsman is put to shame by the graven image; for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them. 18 They are vanity, the work of errors; in the time of their visitation they shall perish. 19 The portion of Jacob is not like them; for He is the Maker of all things; and Israel is the rod of His inheritance; the LORD of hosts is His name. 20 You are my battle axe and weapons of war; for with you I will break in pieces the nations, and with you I will destroy kingdoms; 21 And with you I will break in pieces the horse and his rider; and with you I will break in pieces the chariot and its rider; 22 With you also I will break in pieces man and woman; with you I will break in pieces old and young; and with you I will break in pieces the young man and the maiden. 23 I will also break in pieces with you the shepherd and his flock; and with you I will break in pieces the farmer and his yoke of oxen; and with you I will break in pieces captains and rulers. 24 And I will render to Babylon, and to all the inhabitants of Chaldea, all their evil that they have done in Zion in your sight, says the LORD. 25 Behold, I am against you, O destroying mountain, says the LORD, which destroys all the earth; and I will stretch out My hand upon you, and roll you down from the rocks, and will make you a burnt mountain. 26 They shall not take from you a stone for a corner, nor a stone for foundations; but you shall be desolate forever, says the LORD. 27 Set up a banner in the land, blow the trumpet among the nations, prepare the nations against her, call together against her the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz; appoint a captain against her, cause the horses to come up like the braying locusts. 28 Prepare against her the nations with the kings of the Medes, its captains, and all its rulers, and all the land of his dominion. 29 And the land shall tremble and be in sorrow; for every purpose of the LORD shall be performed against Babylon, to make the land of Babylon a desolation without an inhabitant. 30 The mighty men of Babylon have ceased to fight, they have remained in their strongholds; their might has failed; they became like women; they have burned her dwelling places; her bars are broken. 31 One runner shall meet another, and one messenger to meet another, to show the king of Babylon that his city is taken wholly, 32 And that the passages are blocked, the reeds they have burned with fire, and the men of war are terrified. 33 For thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; The daughter of Babylon is like a threshing floor; it is time to thresh her; yet a little while, and the time of her harvest shall come. 34 Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon has devoured me, he has crushed me, he has made me an empty vessel; he has swallowed me up like a monster, he has filled his belly with my delicacies, he has thrown me out. 35 The violence done to me and to my flesh be upon Babylon, shall the inhabitant of Zion say; and my blood upon the inhabitants of Chaldea, shall Jerusalem say. 36 Therefore thus says the LORD: Behold, I will plead your cause, and take vengeance for you; and I will dry up her sea and make her springs dry. 37 Babylon shall become heaps, a dwelling place for dragons, an astonishment, and a hissing, without an inhabitant. 38 They shall roar together like lions; they shall growl like lions' cubs. 39 In their heat I will make their feasts, and I will make them drunk, that they may rejoice and sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake, says the LORD. 40 I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, like rams with goats. 41 How is Sheshach taken! and how is the praise of the whole earth surprised! how has Babylon become an astonishment among the nations! 42 The sea has come up upon Babylon; she is covered with the multitude of its waves. 43 Her cities are a desolation, a dry land and a wilderness, a land where no one dwells, nor does any son of man pass by. 44 And I will punish Bel in Babylon, and I will bring forth out of his mouth what he has swallowed; and the nations shall no longer gather to him; indeed, the wall of Babylon shall fall. 45 My people, go out of her midst, and deliver every man his soul from the fierce anger of the LORD. 46 And do not let your heart faint, nor fear for the rumor that shall be heard in the land; a rumor shall both come one year, and after that in another year a rumor shall come, and violence in the land, ruler against ruler. 47 Therefore behold, the days come that I will execute judgment upon the graven images of Babylon; her whole land shall be confounded, and all her slain shall fall in her midst. 48 Then the heaven and the earth, and all that is in them, shall sing for Babylon; for the destroyers shall come to her from the north, says the LORD. 49 As Babylon has caused the slain of Israel to fall, so at Babylon shall fall the slain of all the earth. 50 You who have escaped the sword, go away, do not stand still; remember the LORD afar off, and let Jerusalem come into your mind. 51 We are ashamed, because we have heard reproach; shame has covered our faces; for strangers have come into the sanctuaries of the LORD's house. 52 Therefore, behold, the days come, says the LORD, that I will execute judgment upon her graven images; and through all her land the wounded shall groan. 53 Though Babylon should ascend to heaven, and though she should fortify the height of her strength, yet from Me shall destroyers come to her, says the LORD. 54 A sound of a cry comes from Babylon, and great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans; 55 Because the LORD has plundered Babylon, and destroyed out of her the great voice; when her waves roar like great waters, a noise is uttered. 56 Because the destroyer has come upon her, even upon Babylon, and her mighty men are taken, every one of their bows is broken; for the LORD God of recompenses shall surely repay. 57 I will make her princes, wise men, captains, rulers, and mighty men drunk, and they shall sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake, says the King, whose name is the LORD of hosts. 58 Thus says the LORD of hosts: The broad walls of Babylon shall be utterly broken, and her high gates shall be burned with fire; the people shall labor in vain, and the folk shall be weary. 59 The word which Jeremiah the prophet commanded Seraiah the son of Neriah, the son of Maaseiah, when he went with Zedekiah the king of Judah into Babylon in the fourth year of his reign. And Seraiah was a quiet prince. 60 So Jeremiah wrote in a book all the evil that should come upon Babylon, even all these words that are written against Babylon. 61 And Jeremiah said to Seraiah, When you come to Babylon, and shall see, and shall read all these words, 62 Then you shall say, O LORD, you have spoken against this place, to cut it off, that none shall remain in it, neither man nor beast, but that it shall be desolate forever. 63 And it shall be, when you have finished reading this book, that you shall bind a stone to it, and cast it into the midst of the Euphrates; 64 And you shall say, Thus shall Babylon sink, and shall not rise from the evil that I will bring upon her; and they shall be weary. Thus far are the words of Jeremiah.

I will tell you the mystery of the woman and of the beast that carries her, which has the seven heads and ten horns. 8 The beast that you saw was, and is not, and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit and go to destruction: and those who dwell on the earth shall marvel, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they see the beast that was, and is not, and yet is. 9 Here is the mind which has wisdom: The seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman sits. 10 And there are seven kings: five have fallen, one is, and the other has not yet come; and when he comes, he must continue a short time. 11 The beast that was, and is not, is himself also the eighth, and is of the seven, and goes to destruction. 12 The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but receive authority as kings for one hour with the beast. 13 These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast. 14 These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for he is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those who are with him are called, chosen, and faithful. 15 Then he said to me, The waters which you saw, where the prostitute sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations, and languages. 16 The ten horns which you saw on the beast will hate the prostitute, make her desolate and naked, eat her flesh, and burn her with fire. 17 For God has put it into their hearts to fulfill his purpose, to be of one mind, and to give their kingdom to the beast, until the words of God are fulfilled. 18 The woman whom you saw is that great city which reigns over the kings of the earth.
• Isa 17:1 : 1 The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a heap of ruins.
• Isa 19:1 : 1 The burden of Egypt. Behold, the LORD rides upon a swift cloud and shall come into Egypt. The idols of Egypt shall be moved at His presence, and the heart of Egypt shall melt in its midst.
• Isa 21:1-9 : 1 The prophecy concerning the desert by the sea. As whirlwinds in the south pass through, so it comes from the desert, from a dreadful land. 2 A harsh vision is revealed to me; the treacherous one deals treacherously, and the destroyer destroys. Go up, O Elam! Besiege, O Media! All its sighing have I made to cease. 3 Therefore my loins are filled with pain; pangs have seized me, like the pangs of a woman in labor. I was bent over when I heard it; I was dismayed when I saw it. 4 My heart pounded, fearfulness frightened me; the night that I delighted in has been turned into terror for me. 5 Prepare the table, watch in the watchtower, eat, drink: arise, you princes, and anoint the shield. 6 For the Lord has said to me, Go, set a watchman, let him declare what he sees. 7 And he saw a chariot with a pair of horsemen, a chariot of donkeys, and a chariot of camels; and he listened diligently with great attention: 8 And he cried, A lion: My lord, I stand continually on the watchtower in the daytime, and I am stationed in my post every night: 9 And, behold, here comes a chariot of men with a pair of horsemen. And he answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the carved images of her gods he has shattered to the ground. 10 O my threshing and the grain of my floor: that which I have heard from the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, I have declared to you. 11 The prophecy concerning Dumah. He calls to me out of Seir, Watchman, what is left of the night? Watchman, what is left of the night?
• Isa 21:13 : 13 The prophecy concerning Arabia. In the forest in Arabia you will lodge, O you traveling companies of Dedanim.
• Isa 22:1 : 1 The burden of the valley of vision. What troubles you now, that you have all gone up to the rooftops?
• Isa 22:25-23:1 : 25 In that day, says the LORD of hosts, shall the nail that is fastened in a sure place be removed, and be cut down, and fall; and the burden that was upon it shall be cut off: for the LORD has spoken it. 1 The burden concerning Tyre. Wail, you ships of Tarshish; for it is destroyed, so there is no house, no entrance: from the land of Chittim it is revealed to them.
• Isa 43:14 : 14 Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: For your sake, I have sent to Babylon, and have brought down all their nobles and the Chaldeans, whose shout is in the ships.
• Isa 44:1-2 : 1 Yet now hear, O Jacob my servant, and Israel, whom I have chosen: 2 Thus says the LORD that made you, and formed you from the womb, who will help you; Fear not, O Jacob, my servant; and you, Jesurun, whom I have chosen.
• Isa 13:19 : 19 And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldeans' excellency, will be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.
• Isa 14:4-9 : 4 That you will take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say, How has the oppressor ceased! the golden city ceased! 5 The LORD has broken the staff of the wicked, and the scepter of the rulers. 6 He who struck the people in wrath with a continual stroke, he that ruled the nations in anger, is persecuted, and none hinders. 7 The whole earth is at rest, and is quiet: they break forth into singing. 8 Yes, the pine trees rejoice over you, and the cedars of Lebanon, saying, Since you are laid down, no woodcutter comes up against us. 9 Hell from beneath is moved for you to meet you at your coming: it stirs up the dead for you, even all the chief ones of the earth; it has raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations. 10 All they will speak and say to you, Have you also become weak as we? Have you become like us? 11 Your pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of your viols: the worm is spread under you, and the worms cover you. 12 How are you fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How are you cut down to the ground, who did weaken the nations! 13 For you have said in your heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will also sit upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the Most High. 15 Yet you will be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. 16 They that see you will look narrowly upon you, and consider you, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that shook kingdoms; 17 That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed its cities; who did not open the house of his prisoners? 18 All the kings of the nations, even all of them, lie in glory, everyone in his own house. 19 But you are cast out of your grave like an abominable branch, and as the raiment of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; like a carcass trodden under foot. 20 You will not be joined with them in burial, because you have destroyed your land, and slain your people: the seed of evildoers will never be renowned. 21 Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers; that they do not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with cities. 22 For I will rise up against them, says the LORD of hosts, and cut off from Babylon the name, and remnant, and son, and nephew, says the LORD. 23 I will also make it a possession for the porcupine, and pools of water: and I will sweep it with the broom of destruction, says the LORD of hosts.
