22And Joshua called for them, and he spoke to them, saying, Why have you deceived us, saying, We are very far from you; when you dwell among us?
4And they were left to test Israel by them, to know whether they would listen to the commandments of the LORD, which He commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.
5And the children of Israel lived among the Canaanites, Hittites, and Amorites, and Perizzites, and Hivites, and Jebusites:
7And Joshua said, Alas, O Lord GOD, why have you at all brought this people over Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us? Would to God we had been content, and dwelt on the other side of Jordan!
8O Lord, what shall I say, when Israel turns their backs before their enemies?
9For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land shall hear of it, and surround us, and cut off our name from the earth: and what will you do for your great name?
9And Joshua said to the children of Israel, Come here and hear the words of the LORD your God.
10And Joshua said, By this you shall know that the living God is among you, and that he will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Hivites, and the Perizzites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Jebusites.
22Only in this will the men consent to dwell with us, to become one people, if every male among us is circumcised as they are circumcised.
23Will not their livestock and their substance and every beast of theirs be ours? Only let us consent to them, and they will dwell with us.
19There was not a city that made peace with the children of Israel, except the Hivites, the inhabitants of Gibeon: all others they took in battle.
24And they answered Joshua, and said, Because it was certainly told to your servants how the LORD your God commanded His servant Moses to give you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you, therefore we were very afraid for our lives because of you, and have done this thing.
25And now, see, we are in your hand: do to us as it seems good and right to you to do.
19But all the leaders said to all the congregation, We have sworn to them by the LORD God of Israel: now therefore we may not touch them.
20This we will do to them; we will let them live, lest wrath be upon us because of the oath we swore to them.
1And it happened, when all the kings on this side of the Jordan, in the hills, and in the valleys, and along all the coasts of the great sea opposite Lebanon, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite, heard of it;
2That they gathered themselves together to fight with Joshua and with Israel, with one accord.
3And when the inhabitants of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done to Jericho and to Ai,
28And they said, We saw certainly that the LORD was with you: and we said, Let there now be an oath between us, even between us and you, and let us make a covenant with you;
17And the men said unto her, We will be blameless of this your oath which you have made us swear.
9And she said unto the men, I know that the LORD has given you the land, and that your terror has fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you.
15And they came to the children of Reuben, the children of Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, in the land of Gilead, and spoke with them, saying,
14And the men answered her, Our life for yours, if you do not reveal this our business. And it shall be, when the LORD has given us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with you.
1Now it happened, when Adonizedek king of Jerusalem heard how Joshua had taken Ai and utterly destroyed it—just as he had done to Jericho and her king, so he had done to Ai and her king—and how the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel and were among them,
7What shall we do for wives for those who remain, seeing we have sworn by the LORD that we will not give them our daughters as wives?
1Then Nahash the Ammonite came up and encamped against Jabesh-gilead, and all the men of Jabesh said to Nahash, "Make a covenant with us, and we will serve you."
4Come up to me and help me, so that we may attack Gibeon, for it has made peace with Joshua and with the children of Israel.
12Take heed to yourself, lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land where you are going, lest it become a snare in your midst.
24And if we have not rather done it for fear of this thing, saying, In time to come your children might speak to our children, saying, What have you to do with the LORD God of Israel?
1When the LORD your God shall bring you into the land where you are going to possess it, and has cast out many nations before you, the Hittites, the Girgashites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than you;
9If they say to us, 'Wait until we come to you,' then we will stand still in our place and not go up to them.
10And you shall dwell with us, and the land shall be before you; dwell and trade therein, and acquire possessions there.
5And they answered the king, The man who consumed us and plotted against us to destroy us from remaining in any territory of Israel,
12And to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh, Joshua spoke, saying,
13And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, there stood a man opposite him with his sword drawn in his hand; and Joshua went to him and said to him, Are you for us or for our adversaries?
10Come, let us deal wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it happen, that when any war breaks out, they join also with our enemies, and fight against us, and so go up out of the land.
16Then will we give our daughters to you, and we will take your daughters to us, and we will dwell with you, and we will become one people.
22And every one of you came near to me, and said, Let us send men before us, and they shall search out the land for us, and bring us back word of the way we must go up and of the cities we will come to.
6And the men of Gibeon sent to Joshua to the camp at Gilgal, saying, Do not let your hand be slack from your servants; come up to us quickly, and save us and help us, for all the kings of the Amorites who dwell in the mountains have gathered together against us.
