Yet on the day of your fasting, you pursue your own desires and oppress all your workers. 4 Your fasting ends in quarreling and strife, and in striking each other with wicked fists. You cannot fast as you do today and expect your voice to be heard on high. 5 Is this the kind of fast I have chosen, only a day for people to humble themselves? Is it only for bowing one's head like a reed and for lying in sackcloth and ashes? Is that what you call a fast, a day acceptable to the Lord? 6 Is this not the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loosen the chains of injustice, to untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free, and to break every yoke?

They piled them in heaps. 7 In the third month, they began to lay the heaps, and they finished in the seventh month. 8 When Hezekiah and the officials came and saw the heaps, they praised the Lord and blessed His people Israel. 9 Hezekiah questioned the priests and Levites about the heaps. 10 Azariah, the chief priest from the family of Zadok, answered, 'Since the people began to bring their contributions to the house of the Lord, we have had enough to eat and plenty to spare, because the Lord has blessed His people; this great amount is what is left over.'
