    11 Then He said, 'There was a man who had two sons.'

    12 The younger one said to his father, 'Father, give me my share of the estate.' So he divided the property between them.

    13 Not long after, the younger son gathered all he had and traveled to a distant country, where he squandered his wealth in reckless living.

    14 After he had spent everything, a severe famine arose throughout that country, and he began to be in need.

    15 So he went and attached himself to one of the citizens of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed pigs.

    16 He longed to fill his stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one gave him anything.

    17 But when he came to his senses, he said, 'How many of my father's hired servants have more than enough bread, but here I am dying from hunger!

    18 I will rise up and go to my father and say to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you.

    19 I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Treat me as one of your hired servants.’

    20 And he rose up and went to his father. But while he was still far off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion; he ran, embraced him, and kissed him.

    21 The son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.'

    22 But the father said to his servants, 'Bring out the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet.

    23 Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let us eat and celebrate!

    24 For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ And they began to celebrate.

    25 Meanwhile, the older son was in the field. As he came and drew near the house, he heard music and dancing.

    26 So he called one of the servants and asked what these things were about.

    27 He said to him, 'Your brother has come, and your father has killed the fattened calf because he has received him back safe and sound.'

    28 What do you think? A man had two sons. He went to the first and said, 'Son, go work today in the vineyard.'

    29 The son replied, 'I don’t want to.' But later, he changed his mind and went.

    30 The man then went to the second son and said the same thing. He answered, 'I will, sir,' but he did not go.

    31 When the other servants saw what had happened, they were greatly distressed and went and told their master everything that had happened.

    32 Then the master summoned the servant and said to him, 'You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you begged me to.'

    35 This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother or sister from your heart.

    17 At the time of the banquet, he sent his servant to tell those who had been invited, ‘Come, for everything is now ready.’

    18 But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said, ‘I have bought a field, and I must go and see it. Please excuse me.’

    23 Then the master told his servant, ‘Go out to the highways and hedges and compel them to come in, so that my house will be full.’

    24 I tell you, not one of those men who were invited will taste my banquet.

    25 Large crowds were traveling with Jesus, and turning to them, he said,

  • 18 If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who does not obey his father or mother, and they discipline him but he will not listen to them,

  • 8 Then he said to his servants, 'The wedding banquet is ready, but those invited were not worthy.'

  • 13 Then the king told the attendants, 'Tie him hand and foot, and throw him out into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'

  • 17 For you know that afterward, when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected. He found no opportunity for repentance, even though he sought it with tears.

    38 But when the tenant farmers saw the son, they said to one another, 'This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and take his inheritance!'
