Samuel said to the people, 'Do you see the one the LORD has chosen? There is no one like him among all the people.' Then the people shouted, 'Long live the king!'

6But their request for a king displeased Samuel, and he prayed to the LORD.
7The LORD said to Samuel, 'Listen to the voice of the people in all that they say to you. It is not you they have rejected but they have rejected me as their king.
34There Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet are to anoint him king over Israel. Blow the ram's horn and declare, 'Long live King Solomon!'
35You are to go up with him, and he is to sit on my throne and reign in my place. I have appointed him ruler over Israel and Judah.'
19The people all said to Samuel, 'Pray to the LORD your God for your servants, so that we will not die, for we have added this evil to all our sins by asking for a king.'

9As Saul turned to leave Samuel, God changed his heart, and all these signs came to pass that day.
20Now, my lord the king, the eyes of all Israel are on you, to tell them who will sit on the throne of my lord the king after him.
14But now your kingdom will not endure. The Lord has sought a man after His own heart and appointed him leader over His people, because you have not kept what the Lord commanded you."
10Then the word of the LORD came to Samuel, saying:
40Then Saul said to all Israel, 'You stand on one side, and I and Jonathan my son will stand on the other.' And the people said to Saul, 'Do whatever seems right to you.'
