17 Eli asked, "What was it that he said to you? Do not hide it from me. May God deal with you severely if you hide from me anything he told you."
1 The young boy Samuel was serving the Lord under Eli. In those days the word of the Lord was rare; visions were not widespread.
2 One day, Eli was lying in his usual place. His eyesight had begun to grow dim, so he could not see well.
3 The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the temple of the Lord, where the ark of God was.
4 Then the Lord called to Samuel, and he answered, "Here I am!"
5 Samuel ran to Eli and said, "Here I am, for you called me." But Eli said, "I did not call; go back and lie down." So Samuel went and lay down again.
6 The Lord called Samuel again. Samuel got up, went to Eli, and said, "Here I am, for you called me." But Eli said, "I did not call, my son. Go back and lie down."
7 Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, and the word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him.
8 The Lord called Samuel a third time, and he got up and went to Eli, saying, "Here I am, for you called me." Then Eli realized that the Lord was calling the boy.
9 So Eli said to Samuel, "Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, 'Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.'" So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
10 The Lord came, stood there, and called as he had before: "Samuel! Samuel!" And Samuel said, "Speak, for your servant is listening."
21 The Lord continued to appear at Shiloh, for he revealed himself to Samuel there through his word.
28 Now it came to pass on the day the LORD spoke to Moses in the land of Egypt,
8 the Lord sent a prophet to the Israelites, who said to them, 'This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: I brought you up out of Egypt and out of the house of slavery.
11 'Then Elkanah went to his home at Ramah, but the boy stayed to serve the LORD under the supervision of Eli the priest.'

8 So then, it was not you who sent me here, but God. He made me like a father to Pharaoh, lord over all his household, and a ruler throughout Egypt.
26 And the boy Samuel continued to grow in stature and in favor with the LORD and with people.
18 The elders of Israel will listen to you. Then you, along with the elders, must go to the king of Egypt and say to him, 'The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, has met with us. Now please let us take a three-day journey into the wilderness to offer sacrifices to the LORD our God.'
32 'I am the God of your ancestors, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.' Moses trembled with fear and did not dare to look closely.
3 God said, 'I am God, the God of your father. Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you into a great nation there.'
20 In the course of time, Hannah conceived and gave birth to a son. She named him Samuel, saying, 'Because I asked the LORD for him.'
