    11 When Johanan son of Kareah and all the army commanders with him heard of all the evil Ishmael son of Nethaniah had done,

    12 they took their men and went to fight against Ishmael son of Nethaniah. They found him by the great pool at Gibeon.

    15 But Ishmael son of Nethaniah escaped from Johanan with eight of his men and fled to the Ammonites.

    16 Then Johanan son of Kareah and all the army commanders with him took all the remnant of the people whom he had rescued from Ishmael son of Nethaniah after Ishmael had killed Gedaliah son of Ahikam—this included soldiers, women, children, and eunuchs, whom Johanan brought back from Gibeon.

    12 all the Jews returned from all the places where they had been scattered. They came to the land of Judah, to Gedaliah at Mizpah, and gathered an abundance of wine and summer fruit.

    13 Then Johanan son of Kareah and all the commanders of the forces in the countryside came to Gedaliah at Mizpah.

    14 They said to him, 'Do you know that Baalis, the king of Ammon, has sent Ishmael son of Nethaniah to assassinate you?' But Gedaliah son of Ahikam did not believe them.

    15 Johanan son of Kareah spoke privately to Gedaliah at Mizpah, saying, 'Let me go and kill Ishmael son of Nethaniah. No one will know about it. Why should he take your life, causing all the Jews who have gathered to you to scatter and leaving the remnant of Judah to perish?'

    16 But Gedaliah son of Ahikam said to Johanan son of Kareah, 'Do not do this thing. What you are saying about Ishmael is a lie.'

    7 When all the army commanders who were in the countryside, they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had appointed Gedaliah son of Ahikam over the land and had put him in charge of the men, women, children, and the poor of the land who had not been exiled to Babylon,

    8 they and their men came to Gedaliah at Mizpah: Ishmael son of Nethaniah, Johanan and Jonathan the sons of Kareah, Seraiah son of Tanhumeth, the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah son of the Maacathite.

    9 Gedaliah son of Ahikam son of Shaphan took an oath to reassure them and their men, saying, 'Do not be afraid to serve the Chaldeans. Stay in the land and serve the king of Babylon, and it will go well for you.'

    26 Then all the people, from the youngest to the oldest, together with the army commanders, arose and fled to Egypt because they were afraid of the Chaldeans.

  • 1 The Spirit lifted me up and brought me to the eastern gate of the house of the Lord, which faces eastward, and I saw twenty-five men at the entrance of the gate. Among them were Jaazaniah son of Azzur and Pelatiah son of Benaiah, leaders of the people.

  • 61 And Jeremiah said to Seraiah, 'When you get to Babylon, see that you read all these words aloud.'

  • 9 They said to the messengers who had come, "Say to the men of Jabesh-Gilead: 'Tomorrow, by the time the sun is hot, you will be delivered.'" When the messengers went and reported this to the men of Jabesh, they were overjoyed.
