16 Then Johanan son of Kareah and all the army commanders with him took all the remnant of the people whom he had rescued from Ishmael son of Nethaniah after Ishmael had killed Gedaliah son of Ahikam—this included soldiers, women, children, and eunuchs, whom Johanan brought back from Gibeon.
23 Yet they did not listen or incline their ear. They stiffened their necks and would not listen or take correction.
6 So Jeremiah went to Gedaliah son of Ahikam at Mizpah and stayed with him among the people who were left in the land.
7 When all the army commanders who were in the countryside, they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had appointed Gedaliah son of Ahikam over the land and had put him in charge of the men, women, children, and the poor of the land who had not been exiled to Babylon,

20 Jeremiah said, "They will not hand you over. Please listen to the voice of the LORD in what I am telling you, so that it may go well for you and your life will be spared.
21 But if you refuse to surrender, this is the word the LORD has shown me:

2 This is what the LORD says: Whoever stays in this city will die by the sword, famine, or plague. But whoever goes out to the Chaldeans will live; they will escape with their life and survive.
11 When all the Jews in Moab, Ammon, Edom, and all the other lands heard that the king of Babylon had allowed a remnant to remain in Judah and had appointed Gedaliah son of Ahikam son of Shaphan as governor over them,
15 Johanan son of Kareah spoke privately to Gedaliah at Mizpah, saying, 'Let me go and kill Ishmael son of Nethaniah. No one will know about it. Why should he take your life, causing all the Jews who have gathered to you to scatter and leaving the remnant of Judah to perish?'
16 But Gedaliah son of Ahikam said to Johanan son of Kareah, 'Do not do this thing. What you are saying about Ishmael is a lie.'
13 This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: 'Go and say to the people of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem: “Will you not accept instruction and obey My words?” declares the LORD.

27 All the officials did come to Jeremiah and questioned him, and he told them everything the king had ordered him to say. So they said no more to him, for no one had heard the conversation.
14 Jeremiah replied, "That is a lie! I am not deserting to the Chaldeans." But Irijah would not listen to him. Instead, he seized Jeremiah and brought him to the officials.

8 Baruch son of Neriah did everything Jeremiah the prophet commanded him. He read from the scroll the words of the LORD in the house of the LORD.
