4 But now, be strong, Zerubbabel—this is the declaration of the LORD. Be strong, Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest. Be strong, all you people of the land—this is the declaration of the LORD. Work, for I am with you—this is the declaration of the LORD of Hosts.
7 So I stationed people in the lowest parts behind the wall, in the open areas, and I positioned them by families with their swords, spears, and bows.
8 Then I saw what was happening; I stood and addressed the nobles, the officials, and the rest of the people, 'Do not be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your homes.'
9 When our enemies realized that we were aware of their scheme and that God had frustrated their plans, we all returned to the wall, each to his own work.
20 I answered them, saying, "The God of heaven will give us success. We, his servants, will arise and build. But as for you, you have no share, no legal claim or historic right in Jerusalem."

10 I went to the house of Shemaiah son of Delaiah, the son of Mehetabel, who was confined to his home. He said, "Let us meet in the house of God, inside the temple, and let us close the temple doors, for they are coming to kill you—by night they are coming to kill you."
11 But I said, "Should a man like me run away? How can someone like me enter the temple and live? I will not go!"
12 Our God, will you not judge them? For we have no power to face this vast army coming against us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.
13 All the men of Judah, with their wives, children, and little ones, stood there before the LORD.
13 Be strong, and let us show courage for the sake of our people and the cities of our God. And may the LORD do what is good in His sight.
5 Then the family heads of Judah and Benjamin, the priests, and the Levites—everyone whose spirit God had stirred—rose to go up and rebuild the house of the LORD in Jerusalem.
15 so now I have purposed in these days to do good to Jerusalem and the house of Judah. Do not be afraid.
16 When all our enemies heard about this, and all the surrounding nations saw it, they lost their confidence because they realized that this work had been done with the help of our God.
8 The officers shall continue to speak to the people, saying: 'Is anyone afraid or fainthearted? Let him go back to his house, so he does not cause his brothers' hearts to melt like his own.'
17 But you, prepare yourself; rise and speak to them all that I command you. Do not be terrified by them, or I will terrify you before them.
22 For I was ashamed to ask the king for soldiers and horsemen to protect us from enemies along the way, since we had told the king, 'The hand of our God is favorable toward all who seek Him, but His power and wrath are against all who abandon Him.'
9 Then I said, 'What you are doing is not right. Shouldn’t you walk in the fear of our God to avoid the reproach of the nations, our enemies?'
3 I said to them, 'The gates of Jerusalem should not be opened until the sun is hot. While the guards are still standing watch, let the gates be shut and secured. Also appoint guards from among the inhabitants of Jerusalem, each at his post and near his own house.'
4 The city was spacious and large, but its people were few, and there were no houses built yet.
22 Be diligent in carrying out this command, so that no damage may increase and harm the interests of the kings.
15 He said: 'Listen, all you people of Judah and Jerusalem! Listen, King Jehoshaphat! This is what the LORD says: Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s.'
3 They said to me, 'Those who survived the exile and are back in the province are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been burned with fire.'
9 This is why our fathers have fallen by the sword, and our sons, daughters, and wives are in captivity today.
14 Let our leaders act on behalf of the entire assembly. Then let all those in our towns who have married foreign women come at appointed times, along with the elders and judges of each town, until the fierce anger of our God regarding this matter is turned away from us.
16 Instead, I devoted myself to the work on this wall. We did not acquire any land, and all my servants were gathered there for the work.

9 'Then we asked those elders, and we said to them, "Who gave you the authority to rebuild this temple and complete this structure?"'
4 Standing on the platform of the Levites were Jeshua, Bani, Kadmiel, Shebaniah, Bunni, Sherebiah, Bani, and Chenani, and they cried out with a loud voice to the LORD their God.
