My little children, I write these things to you so that you do not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

29If you know that he is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness is born of him.
2For the life was revealed, and we have seen it, and testify, and show to you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was revealed to us;
3That which we have seen and heard we declare to you, so that you also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
4And these things we write to you, that your joy may be full.
5This then is the message which we have heard from him, and declare to you, that God is light, and in him there is no darkness at all.
6If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not practice the truth:
7But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin.
8If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
7For many deceivers have gone out into the world, who do not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.
8Look to yourselves, that we do not lose those things we have worked for, but that we may receive a full reward.
9Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son.
21Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, then we have confidence toward God.
16If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin not leading to death, he will ask, and He will give him life for those who commit sin not leading to death. There is a sin leading to death; I do not say that he should pray about that.
17All unrighteousness is sin, and there is a sin not leading to death.
18We know that whoever is born of God does not sin, but he who is born of God keeps himself, and the wicked one does not touch him.
20And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.
21Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.

4You are from God, little children, and have overcome them, because greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world.
5And now I urge you, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment to you, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.
6He who says he abides in him ought himself also to walk just as he walked.
21I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and that no lie is of the truth.
22Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist who denies the Father and the Son.
24Therefore let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father.
26These things I have written to you concerning those who try to deceive you.
11Beloved, do not follow what is evil, but what is good. He who does good is of God: but he who does evil has not seen God.
