26And Joshua wrote these words in the book of the law of God, and took a large stone, and set it up there under an oak, that was by the sanctuary of the LORD.
27And Joshua said to all the people, Behold, this stone shall be a witness to us; for it has heard all the words of the LORD which he spoke to us: it shall therefore be a witness to you, lest you deny your God.

28Therefore we said that it shall be, when they should say to us or to our generations in time to come, that we may say, Behold the pattern of the altar of the LORD, which our fathers made, not for burnt offerings nor for sacrifices, but it is a witness between us and you.
26And it shall come to pass, when your children ask you, 'What do you mean by this service?'
2And it shall be on the day when you pass over the Jordan into the land which the LORD your God gives you, that you shall set up great stones, and plaster them with plaster:
4Therefore it shall be when you have crossed the Jordan, that you shall set up these stones, which I command you today, in Mount Ebal, and you shall plaster them with plaster.
5For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children:
6That the generation to come might know them, even the children who should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children:
14And it shall be when your son asks you in time to come, saying, What is this? that you shall say to him, By strength of hand the LORD brought us out from Egypt, from the house of bondage:
13And that their children, who have not known anything, may hear, and learn to fear the LORD your God, as long as you live in the land where you go over Jordan to possess it.
9Only take heed to yourself, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things which your eyes have seen, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life: but teach them to your sons, and your sons' sons;
10Especially the day that you stood before the LORD your God in Horeb, when the LORD said to me, Gather the people together, and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they shall live upon the earth, and that they may teach their children.
24And if we have not rather done it for fear of this thing, saying, In time to come your children might speak to our children, saying, What have you to do with the LORD God of Israel?
18Therefore, you shall lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them as a sign on your hand, so they may be as frontlets between your eyes.
19And you shall teach them to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.
20And you shall write them upon the doorposts of your house, and upon your gates:
21That your days may be multiplied, and the days of your children, in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers to give them, as the days of heaven upon the earth.
3Tell your children about it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation.
7And he put them on the shoulders of the ephod as stones for a memorial to the children of Israel, as the LORD commanded Moses.
8And you shall command the priests who bear the ark of the covenant, saying, When you come to the edge of the waters of the Jordan, you shall stand still in the Jordan.
9And Joshua said to the children of Israel, Come here and hear the words of the LORD your God.
6And these words, which I command you this day, shall be in your heart:
7And you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up.

7Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations: ask your father, and he will show you; your elders, and they will tell you.
14And the stones were according to the names of the children of Israel, twelve, according to their names, like the engravings of a signet, each with his name, representing the twelve tribes.
40You shall therefore keep his statutes, and his commandments, which I command you this day, that it may go well with you, and with your children after you, and that you may prolong your days upon the earth, which the LORD your God gives you, forever.
2And know this day: for I speak not with your children who have not known or seen the discipline of the LORD your God, His greatness, His mighty hand, and His outstretched arm,
15And the LORD spoke to Joshua, saying,
11With the work of an engraver in stone, like the engravings of a signet, you shall engrave the two stones with the names of the children of Israel. You shall set them in settings of gold.
