How has Moab turned his back with shame!' So Moab shall be a derision and a dismaying to all those around him. 40 For thus says the LORD: Behold, he shall fly like an eagle and shall spread his wings over Moab. 41 Kerioth is taken, and the strongholds are surprised, and the mighty men's hearts in Moab in that day shall be like the heart of a woman in her pangs. 42 And Moab shall be destroyed from being a people, because he has magnified himself against the LORD. 43 Fear, the pit, and the snare shall be upon you, O inhabitant of Moab, says the LORD. 44 He who flees from the fear shall fall into the pit, and he who gets out of the pit shall be taken in the snare; for I will bring upon it, even upon Moab, the year of their visitation, says the LORD. 45 Those who fled stood under the shadow of Heshbon because of the force; but a fire shall come out of Heshbon, and a flame from the midst of Sihon, and shall devour the corner of Moab and the crown of the head of the tumultuous ones. 46 Woe to you, O Moab! The people of Chemosh perish, for your sons are taken captive and your daughters captive. 47 Yet I will bring back the captivity of Moab in the latter days, says the LORD. Thus far is the judgment of Moab. 1 Concerning the Ammonites, thus says the LORD: Does Israel have no sons? Does he have no heir? Why then does their king inherit Gad, and his people dwell in its cities? 2 Therefore, behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, that I will cause the alarm of war to be heard in Rabbah of the Ammonites; and it will be a desolate heap, and her villages will be burned with fire. Then Israel will inherit those who were his heirs, says the LORD. 3 Howl, O Heshbon, for Ai is destroyed: cry out, you daughters of Rabbah, clothe yourselves with sackcloth; mourn, and run to and fro by the hedges; for their king will go into captivity, and his priests and his princes together. 4 Why do you boast in the valleys, your flowing valley, O backsliding daughter? Who trusted in her treasures, saying, Who will come against me? 5 Behold, I will bring fear upon you, says the Lord GOD of hosts, from all those who are round about you; and you will be driven out every man straight forward; and no one will gather him that wanders. 6 And afterward I will bring again the captivity of the children of Ammon, says the LORD.
