- Exod 19:1-9 : 1 In the third month, when the children of Israel had gone out of the land of Egypt, on that same day they came into the wilderness of Sinai. 2 For they had departed from Rephidim, and had come to the desert of Sinai, and camped in the wilderness; and there Israel camped before the mountain. 3 And Moses went up to God, and the LORD called to him out of the mountain, saying, This is what you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel: 4 You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I carried you on eagles' wings, and brought you to myself. 5 Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to me above all people; for all the earth is mine: 6 And you shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel. 7 And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before them all these words which the LORD commanded him. 8 And all the people answered together, and said, All that the LORD has spoken we will do. And Moses brought back the words of the people to the LORD. 9 And the LORD said to Moses, Behold, I come to you in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with you, and believe you forever. And Moses told the words of the people to the LORD. 10 And the LORD said to Moses, Go to the people, and sanctify them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their clothes, 11 And be ready for the third day, for on the third day the LORD will come down in the sight of all the people upon Mount Sinai. 12 And you shall set boundaries for the people round about, saying, Take heed to yourselves, that you do not go up into the mount, or touch the border of it; whoever touches the mount shall surely be put to death: 13 No hand shall touch it, but he shall surely be stoned or shot through; whether it is beast or man, it shall not live; when the trumpet sounds long, they shall come up to the mount. 14 And Moses went down from the mount to the people, and sanctified the people; and they washed their clothes. 15 And he said to the people, Be ready for the third day; do not come near your wives. 16 And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceedingly loud, so that all the people in the camp trembled. 17 And Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the lower part of the mount. 18 And Mount Sinai was all in smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire, and the smoke went up like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly. 19 And when the voice of the trumpet sounded long and grew louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him by a voice. 20 And the LORD came down upon Mount Sinai, on the top of the mount, and the LORD called Moses up to the top of the mount; and Moses went up.
- Exod 15:23-25 : 23 And when they came to Marah, they could not drink the waters of Marah, for they were bitter: therefore the name of it was called Marah. 24 And the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink? 25 And he cried to the LORD; and the LORD showed him a tree, which when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet: there he made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there he tested them,
- Exod 16:1-9 : 1 And they journeyed from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came to the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departure from the land of Egypt. 2 And the whole congregation of the children of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness. 3 And the children of Israel said to them, If only we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots of meat, and when we ate bread to the full; for you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger. 4 Then the LORD said to Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain amount every day, that I may test them, whether they will walk in my law or not. 5 And it shall come to pass that on the sixth day they shall prepare what they bring in, and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily. 6 And Moses and Aaron said to all the children of Israel, At evening, you shall know that the LORD has brought you out from the land of Egypt. 7 And in the morning, you shall see the glory of the LORD; for he hears your complaints against the LORD: and what are we, that you complain against us? 8 And Moses said, This shall be when the LORD gives you meat to eat in the evening and bread to the full in the morning; for the LORD hears your complaints which you make against him: and what are we? Your complaints are not against us, but against the LORD. 9 And Moses spoke to Aaron, Say to all the congregation of the children of Israel, Come near before the LORD, for he has heard your complaints. 10 And it came to pass, as Aaron spoke to the whole congregation of the children of Israel, that they looked toward the wilderness, and behold, the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud. 11 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 12 I have heard the complaints of the children of Israel: speak to them, saying, At evening you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread; and you shall know that I am the LORD your God. 13 And it came to pass that in the evening the quails came up and covered the camp; and in the morning the dew lay all around the camp. 14 And when the dew had gone up, there on the surface of the wilderness lay a small round thing, as small as the frost on the ground. 15 And when the children of Israel saw it, they said to one another, What is it? For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, This is the bread which the LORD has given you to eat. 16 This is the thing which the LORD has commanded: Gather of it every man according to his need, an omer for every person, according to the number of your people; each man take for those who are in his tent. 17 And the children of Israel did so, and gathered, some more, some less.
- Num 9:15-23 : 15 And on the day that the tabernacle was set up, the cloud covered the tabernacle, namely, the tent of the testimony: and in the evening there was over the tabernacle the appearance of fire, until the morning. 16 So it was always: the cloud covered it by day, and the appearance of fire by night. 17 And when the cloud was taken up from the tabernacle, then after that the children of Israel set out: and in the place where the cloud stayed, there the children of Israel pitched their tents. 18 At the command of the LORD the children of Israel set out, and at the command of the LORD they pitched: as long as the cloud stayed upon the tabernacle they remained in their tents. 19 And when the cloud lingered long upon the tabernacle many days, then the children of Israel kept the charge of the LORD and did not journey. 20 And so it was, when the cloud was a few days upon the tabernacle; according to the command of the LORD they remained in their tents, and according to the command of the LORD they journeyed. 21 And so it was, when the cloud stayed from evening until the morning, and when the cloud was taken up in the morning, then they journeyed: whether it was by day or by night that the cloud was taken up, they journeyed. 22 Or whether it was two days, or a month, or a year, that the cloud lingered upon the tabernacle, remaining on it, the children of Israel remained in their tents and did not journey: but when it was taken up, they journeyed. 23 At the command of the LORD they remained in the tents, and at the command of the LORD they journeyed: they kept the charge of the LORD, at the command of the LORD by the hand of Moses.
- Num 11:1-9 : 1 And when the people complained, it displeased the LORD; and the LORD heard it; and His anger was kindled, and the fire of the LORD burned among them, and consumed those who were in the outermost parts of the camp. 2 And the people cried to Moses; and when Moses prayed to the LORD, the fire was quenched. 3 And he called the name of the place Taberah, because the fire of the LORD burned among them. 4 And the mixed multitude that was among them fell to lusting, and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us meat to eat? 5 We remember the fish, which we ate in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic: 6 But now our soul is dried away; there is nothing at all, besides this manna, before our eyes. 7 And the manna was like coriander seed, and its color was like the color of bdellium. 8 The people went about and gathered it, ground it in mills, or beat it in a mortar, and baked it in pans, and made cakes of it; and its taste was like the taste of fresh oil. 9 And when the dew fell upon the camp in the night, the manna fell upon it. 10 Then Moses heard the people weep throughout their families, every man in the door of his tent, and the anger of the LORD was kindled greatly; Moses also was displeased. 11 And Moses said to the LORD, Why have You afflicted Your servant? and why have I not found favor in Your sight, that You lay the burden of all this people upon me? 12 Have I conceived all this people? Have I begotten them, that You should say to me, Carry them in your bosom, as a nursing father bears the nursing child, to the land which You swore to their fathers? 13 Where should I have meat to give to all this people? for they weep to me, saying, Give us meat, that we may eat. 14 I am not able to bear all this people alone, because it is too heavy for me. 15 And if You deal thus with me, kill me, I pray You, out of hand, if I have found favor in Your sight; and let me not see my wretchedness. 16 And the LORD said to Moses, Gather to Me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom you know to be the elders of the people, and officers over them; and bring them to the tabernacle of the congregation, that they may stand there with you. 17 And I will come down and talk with you there, and I will take of the Spirit which is upon you, and will put it upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with you, that you do not bear it yourself alone. 18 And say to the people, Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow, and you shall eat meat; for you have wept in the ears of the LORD, saying, Who shall give us meat to eat? for it was well with us in Egypt; therefore the LORD will give you meat, and you shall eat. 19 You shall not eat one day, nor two days, nor five days, neither ten days, nor twenty days; 20 But even a whole month, until it comes out at your nostrils, and it is loathsome to you; because you have despised the LORD who is among you, and have wept before Him, saying, Why did we come out of Egypt? 21 And Moses said, The people among whom I am are six hundred thousand footmen; and You have said, I will give them meat, that they may eat a whole month. 22 Shall the flocks and the herds be slain for them, to suffice them? or shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, to suffice them? 23 And the LORD said to Moses, Is the LORD's hand shortened? You shall see now whether My word shall come to pass to you or not. 24 And Moses went out, and told the people the words of the LORD, and gathered the seventy men of the elders of the people, and set them around the tabernacle. 25 And the LORD came down in a cloud, and spoke to him, and took of the spirit that was upon him, and gave it to the seventy elders; and it came to pass, that when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, and did not cease. 26 But two of the men remained in the camp, the name of one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad; and the spirit rested upon them, and they were of those that were written, but did not go out to the tabernacle, and they prophesied in the camp. 27 And a young man ran and told Moses, and said, Eldad and Medad prophesy in the camp. 28 And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Moses, one of his young men, answered and said, My lord Moses, forbid them. 29 And Moses said to him, Are you envious for my sake? Would God that all the LORD's people were prophets, and that the LORD would put His Spirit upon them! 30 And Moses returned to the camp, he and the elders of Israel. 31 And there went forth a wind from the LORD, and brought quails from the sea, and let them fall beside the camp, as it were a day's journey on this side, and as it were a day's journey on the other side, all around the camp, and about two cubits high upon the face of the earth. 32 And the people stood up all that day, and all that night, and all the next day, and they gathered the quails; he that gathered least gathered ten homers; and they spread them all abroad for themselves all around the camp. 33 And while the meat was still between their teeth, before it was chewed, the wrath of the LORD was kindled against the people, and the LORD struck the people with a very great plague. 34 And he called the name of that place Kibroth Hattaavah, because there they buried the people that lusted. 35 And the people traveled from Kibroth Hattaavah to Hazeroth, and stayed at Hazeroth.
- Num 14:1-9 : 1 And all the congregation lifted up their voices and cried; and the people wept that night. 2 And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said to them, Would that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would that we had died in this wilderness! 3 Why has the LORD brought us to this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be prey? Would it not be better for us to return to Egypt? 4 And they said to one another, Let us choose a captain, and let us return to Egypt. 5 Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel. 6 And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, who were among those that searched the land, tore their clothes: 7 And they spoke to all the company of the children of Israel, saying, The land, which we passed through to search it, is an exceedingly good land. 8 If the LORD delights in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it to us; a land which flows with milk and honey. 9 Only do not rebel against the LORD, neither fear the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their protection is removed from them, and the LORD is with us: fear them not. 10 But all the congregation threatened to stone them with stones. And the glory of the LORD appeared in the tabernacle of the congregation before all the children of Israel. 11 And the LORD said to Moses, How long will this people provoke me? and how long will it be before they believe me, for all the signs which I have shown among them? 12 I will strike them with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and will make of you a nation greater and mightier than they. 13 And Moses said to the LORD, Then the Egyptians will hear it, (for you brought up this people in your might from among them;) 14 And they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land: for they have heard that you LORD are among this people, that you LORD are seen face to face, and that your cloud stands over them, and that you go before them, by day in a pillar of a cloud, and in a pillar of fire by night. 15 Now if you shall kill all this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of you will speak, saying, 16 Because the LORD was not able to bring this people into the land which he swore to them, therefore he has slain them in the wilderness. 17 And now, I beseech you, let the power of my Lord be great, according as you have spoken, saying, 18 The LORD is longsuffering and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generation. 19 Pardon, I beseech you, the iniquity of this people according to the greatness of your mercy, and as you have forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now. 20 And the LORD said, I have pardoned according to your word: 21 But as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD. 22 Because all those men who have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times, and have not listened to my voice; 23 Surely they shall not see the land which I swore to their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked me see it: 24 But my servant Caleb, because he had a different spirit with him, and has followed me fully, him will I bring into the land where he went; and his offspring shall possess it. 25 (Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites dwelt in the valley.) Tomorrow turn you, and get into the wilderness by the way of the Red Sea. 26 And the LORD spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying, 27 How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, which murmurs against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me. 28 Say to them, As truly as I live, says the LORD, as you have spoken in my ears, so will I do to you: 29 Your carcasses shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, who have murmured against me, 30 Surely you shall not come into the land, concerning which I swore to make you dwell therein, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun. 31 But your little ones, which you said would be a prey, them will I bring in, and they shall know the land which you have despised. 32 But as for you, your carcasses, they shall fall in this wilderness. 33 And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your faithlessness, until your carcasses are consumed in the wilderness. 34 After the number of the days in which you searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, shall you bear your iniquities, even forty years, and you shall know my breach of promise. 35 I the LORD have said, I will surely do it to all this evil congregation, that are gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die. 36 And the men, which Moses sent to search the land, who returned, and made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up a slander upon the land, 37 Even those men that did bring up the evil report upon the land, died by the plague before the LORD. 38 But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of the men that went to search the land, lived still. 39 And Moses told these sayings to all the children of Israel: and the people mourned greatly. 40 And they rose up early in the morning, and went up into the top of the mountain, saying, Here we are, and will go up to the place which the LORD has promised: for we have sinned. 41 And Moses said, Why now do you transgress the commandment of the LORD? but it shall not prosper. 42 Go not up, for the LORD is not among you; that you be not struck down before your enemies. 43 For the Amalekites and the Canaanites are there before you, and you shall fall by the sword: because you have turned away from the LORD, therefore the LORD will not be with you. 44 But they presumed to go up to the mountaintop: nevertheless the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and Moses, departed not out of the camp. 45 Then the Amalekites came down, and the Canaanites who dwelt in that hill, and struck them, and beat them down, even to Hormah.
- Num 16:1-9 : 1 Now Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men. 2 And they rose up before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty leaders of the assembly, distinguished in the congregation, men of renown. 3 And they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron, and said to them, You take too much upon you, seeing all the congregation is holy, every one of them, and the LORD is among them: why then do you lift yourselves above the congregation of the LORD? 4 And when Moses heard it, he fell upon his face. 5 And he spoke to Korah and to all his company, saying, Tomorrow the LORD will show who are His, and who is holy; and will cause him to come near to Him: even him whom He has chosen will He cause to come near to Him. 6 This do; Take your censers, Korah, and all his company. 7 And put fire in them, and put incense in them before the LORD tomorrow: and it shall be that the man whom the LORD chooses, he shall be holy: you take too much upon you, sons of Levi. 8 And Moses said to Korah, Hear, I pray you, sons of Levi. 9 Does it seem like a small thing to you, that the God of Israel has separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to Himself to do the service of the tabernacle of the LORD, and to stand before the congregation to minister to them? 10 And He has brought you near to Him, and all your brethren the sons of Levi with you: and do you seek the priesthood also? 11 For this cause, both you and all your company are gathered together against the LORD: and what is Aaron, that you complain against him? 12 And Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab: who said, We will not come up. 13 Is it a small thing that you have brought us up out of a land that flows with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, unless you make yourself altogether a prince over us? 14 Moreover, you have not brought us into a land that flows with milk and honey, nor given us inheritance of fields and vineyards: will you put out the eyes of these men? We will not come up. 15 And Moses was very angry, and said to the LORD, Respect not their offering: I have not taken one donkey from them, nor have I harmed one of them. 16 And Moses said to Korah, Be here with all your company before the LORD, you, and they, and Aaron, tomorrow. 17 And take each man his censer, and put incense in them, and bring them before the LORD, each man his censer, two hundred and fifty censers; you also, and Aaron, each of you his censer.
- Num 20:1-9 : 1 Then the children of Israel, the whole congregation, came into the desert of Zin in the first month, and the people stayed in Kadesh; and Miriam died there, and was buried there. 2 And there was no water for the congregation, so they gathered themselves together against Moses and Aaron. 3 And the people argued with Moses and spoke, saying, "Would God that we had died when our brothers died before the LORD! 4 And why have you brought the congregation of the LORD into this wilderness so that we and our livestock should die here? 5 And why have you made us come up out of Egypt to bring us to this evil place? It is not a place of grain, or figs, or vines, or pomegranates; nor is there any water to drink." 6 And Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly to the door of the tabernacle of meeting, and they fell on their faces, and the glory of the LORD appeared to them. 7 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 8 "Take the rod, and gather the assembly together, you and Aaron your brother, and speak to the rock before their eyes, and it will yield its water; thus you shall bring water for them out of the rock, and give drink to the congregation and their livestock." 9 So Moses took the rod from before the LORD as He commanded him. 10 And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said to them, "Hear now, you rebels; must we bring water for you out of this rock?" 11 Then Moses lifted up his hand and struck the rock twice with his rod, and water came out abundantly; and the congregation and their livestock drank. 12 And the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron, "Because you did not believe Me, to sanctify Me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them." 13 This is the water of Meribah, because the children of Israel contended with the LORD, and He was sanctified among them. 14 Now Moses sent messengers from Kadesh to the king of Edom, "Thus says your brother Israel: You know all the hardship that has befallen us, 15 how our fathers went down to Egypt, and we dwelt in Egypt a long time, and the Egyptians afflicted us and our fathers. 16 When we cried out to the LORD, He heard our voice and sent an angel and brought us up out of Egypt; now here we are in Kadesh, a city on the edge of your border. 17 Please let us pass through your country. We will not pass through fields or vineyards, nor will we drink water from wells; we will go along the King's Highway; we will not turn aside to the right hand or to the left until we have passed through your territories." 18 But Edom said to him, "You shall not pass through my land, lest I come out against you with the sword." 19 So the children of Israel said to him, "We will go by the highway, and if I or my livestock drink any of your water, then I will pay for it; let me only pass through on foot, without doing anything else." 20 Then he said, "You shall not pass through." So Edom came out against them with many men and with a strong army. 21 Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his territory; so Israel turned away from him.
- Deut 2:25-37 : 25 This day I will begin to put the dread of you and the fear of you upon the nations under the whole heaven, who shall hear the report of you and shall tremble and be in anguish because of you. 26 And I sent messengers out of the wilderness of Kedemoth to Sihon king of Heshbon with words of peace, saying, 27 Let me pass through your land; I will go along by the highway, I will neither turn to the right hand nor to the left. 28 You shall sell me food for money, that I may eat; and give me water for money, that I may drink; only I will pass through on foot, 29 (as the children of Esau who dwell in Seir and the Moabites who dwell in Ar did unto me) until I cross over Jordan into the land which the LORD our God gives us. 30 But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass by him; for the LORD your God hardened his spirit and made his heart obstinate, that He might deliver him into your hand, as appears this day. 31 And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have begun to give Sihon and his land before you; begin to possess, that you may inherit his land. 32 Then Sihon came out against us, he and all his people, to fight at Jahaz. 33 And the LORD our God delivered him before us, and we struck him and his sons and all his people. 34 And we took all his cities at that time and utterly destroyed the men, women, and little ones of every city; we left none remaining. 35 Only the cattle we took for ourselves as spoil, and the plunder of the cities which we took. 36 From Aroer by the edge of the river Arnon, and from the city by the river, even unto Gilead, there was not a city too strong for us; the LORD our God delivered all unto us. 37 Only to the land of the children of Ammon you did not come, nor to any place of the river Jabbok, nor to the cities in the mountains, nor to whatever the LORD our God forbade us.
- Deut 4:33-37 : 33 Did ever people hear the voice of God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as you have heard, and live? 34 Or has God attempted to go and take him a nation from the midst of another nation, by trials, by signs, by wonders, by war, by a mighty hand, by a stretched out arm, and by great terrors, according to all that the LORD your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes? 35 It was shown to you, that you might know that the LORD he is God; there is none else beside him. 36 Out of heaven he made you to hear his voice, that he might instruct you: and upon earth he showed you his great fire; and you heard his words out of the midst of the fire. 37 And because he loved your fathers, therefore he chose their seed after them, and brought you out in his sight with his mighty power out of Egypt;
- Deut 6:21-22 : 21 Then you shall say to your son, We were slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt; and the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand: 22 And the LORD showed signs and wonders, great and serious, upon Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his household, before our eyes:
- Deut 8:4 : 4 Your clothing did not wear out upon you, neither did your foot swell, these forty years.
- Neh 9:10 : 10 You showed signs and wonders against Pharaoh, against all his servants, and against all the people of his land. For You knew they acted proudly against them. So You made a name for Yourself, as it is this day.
- Neh 9:12-15 : 12 Moreover, You led them by day with a pillar of cloud, and by night with a pillar of fire, to give them light on the way they should go. 13 You came down also on Mount Sinai, and spoke with them from heaven, and gave them just statutes and true laws, good statutes and commandments. 14 You made known to them Your holy Sabbath, and commanded them precepts, statutes, and laws, by the hand of Moses Your servant. 15 You gave them bread from heaven for their hunger, and brought forth water for them out of the rock for their thirst, and promised them that they would go in to possess the land which You had sworn to give them.
- Neh 9:18-22 : 18 Even when they made a molten calf for themselves, and said, 'This is your God that brought you up out of Egypt,' and committed great provocations, 19 Yet in Your overwhelming mercies, You did not forsake them in the wilderness; the pillar of cloud did not depart from them by day to lead them on the way, nor the pillar of fire by night to show them light and the way they should go. 20 You also gave Your good Spirit to instruct them, and did not withhold Your manna from their mouth, and gave them water for their thirst. 21 For forty years You sustained them in the wilderness, so that they lacked nothing; their clothes did not wear out and their feet did not swell. 22 Moreover, You gave them kingdoms and nations, and divided them into districts: So they possessed the land of Sihon, the land of the king of Heshbon, and the land of Og king of Bashan.
- Ps 78:12-33 : 12 Marvellous things did he in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan. 13 He divided the sea, and caused them to pass through; and he made the waters to stand as a heap. 14 In the daytime also he led them with a cloud, and all the night with a light of fire. 15 He split the rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink as from the great depths. 16 He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers. 17 And they sinned yet more against him by provoking the Most High in the wilderness. 18 And they tempted God in their heart by asking meat for their desire. 19 Yes, they spoke against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness? 20 Behold, he struck the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people? 21 Therefore the LORD heard this, and was wroth: so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel; 22 Because they did not believe in God, and did not trust in his salvation: 23 Though he had commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven, 24 And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the grain of heaven. 25 Man did eat angels' food: he sent them meat to the full. 26 He caused an east wind to blow in the heaven: and by his power he brought in the south wind. 27 He rained flesh also upon them as dust, and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea: 28 And he let it fall in the midst of their camp, all around their habitations. 29 So they did eat, and were well filled: for he gave them their own desire; 30 They were not estranged from their desire. But while their meat was yet in their mouths, 31 The wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and struck down the chosen men of Israel. 32 For all this they sinned still, and did not believe for his wondrous works. 33 Therefore their days did he consume in vanity, and their years in trouble.
- Ps 78:42-51 : 42 They did not remember his hand, nor the day when he delivered them from the enemy. 43 How he had worked his signs in Egypt, and his wonders in the field of Zoan: 44 And had turned their rivers into blood; and their streams, that they could not drink. 45 He sent various sorts of flies among them, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them. 46 He gave also their increase unto the caterpillar, and their labor unto the locust. 47 He destroyed their vines with hail, and their sycamore trees with frost. 48 He gave up their cattle also to the hail, and their flocks to hot thunderbolts. 49 He cast upon them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble, by sending evil angels among them. 50 He made a way to his anger; he spared not their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence; 51 And struck all the firstborn in Egypt; the chief of their strength in the dwellings of Ham:
- Ps 95:10 : 10 Forty years long was I grieved with this generation, and said, It is a people that err in their heart, and they have not known my ways:
