- Matt 8:28-34 : 28 When He arrived at the other side in the region of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men came out from the tombs to meet Him. They were so violent that no one could pass that way. 29 Suddenly they shouted, 'What do You want with us, Son of God? Have You come here to torment us before the appointed time?' 30 A large herd of pigs was feeding at some distance from them. 31 The demons begged Him, 'If You drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs.' 32 He said to them, 'Go!' So they came out and went into the herd of pigs. Suddenly, the whole herd of pigs rushed down the steep bank into the sea and drowned in the waters. 33 Those tending the pigs ran off and went into the city. There, they reported everything, including what had happened to the demon-possessed men. 34 Then the whole city came out to meet Jesus. When they saw Him, they begged Him to leave their region.
- Mark 5:1-9 : 1 They arrived at the other side of the sea, in the region of the Gadarenes. 2 As Jesus stepped out of the boat, immediately a man with an unclean spirit came out of the tombs to meet Him. 3 This man lived in the tombs, and no one was able to restrain him anymore, not even with chains. 4 He had been bound often with shackles and chains, but he tore the chains apart and smashed the shackles. No one was strong enough to subdue him. 5 Night and day, he would cry out among the tombs and in the mountains, cutting himself with stones. 6 When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and knelt down before Him. 7 Crying out with a loud voice, he said, 'What do You want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg You by God, do not torment me!' 8 For Jesus had been saying to him, 'Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!' 9 Then Jesus asked him, 'What is your name?' He replied, 'My name is Legion, for we are many.' 10 And he begged Jesus repeatedly not to send them out of the region. 11 Now a large herd of pigs was feeding there on the hillside. 12 The demons begged Him, 'Send us into the pigs so that we may enter them.' 13 So He gave them permission. The unclean spirits came out and entered the pigs, and the herd—about two thousand in number—rushed down the steep bank into the sea and drowned there. 14 Those tending the pigs ran away and reported it in the town and the countryside. The people went out to see what had happened. 15 When they came to Jesus, they saw the man who had been possessed by the legion of demons sitting there, dressed, and in his right mind; and they were afraid. 16 Those who had seen it described to them what had happened to the demon-possessed man and about the pigs. 17 Then the people began to plead with Him to leave their region. 18 As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed begged to go with Him. 19 But Jesus did not let him. Instead, He said, 'Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you and how He has shown you mercy.' 20 So the man went away and began to proclaim in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him. And everyone marveled.
