1When the LORD your God brings you into the land that you are entering to take possession of, and He drives out many nations before you—the Hittites, the Girgashites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites—seven nations more numerous and stronger than you,
2and when the LORD your God delivers them over to you and you defeat them, you must devote them to complete destruction. Do not make a covenant with them or show them any mercy.

1Listen, Israel: Today you are crossing over the Jordan to enter and take possession of nations greater and stronger than you, with cities that are great and fortified up to the heavens.
2The people are great and tall—the descendants of the Anakim, whom you know and about whom you have heard it said, 'Who can stand before the sons of Anak?'
3But understand today that the LORD your God is the one crossing ahead of you as a consuming fire. He will destroy them and subdue them before you, so you will drive them out and annihilate them quickly, as the LORD has promised you.
4Do not say in your heart, when the LORD your God drives them out before you, 'It is because of my righteousness that the LORD has brought me in to take possession of this land,' but it is because of the wickedness of these nations that the LORD is dispossessing them before you.
5It is not because of your righteousness or the uprightness of your heart that you are entering to take possession of their land, but it is because of the wickedness of these nations that the LORD your God is driving them out before you, and to fulfill the promise the LORD swore to your ancestors—to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
29When the Lord your God cuts off the nations before you, the nations you are entering to dispossess, and you drive them out and live in their land,
30be careful that you are not ensnared by following them after they have been destroyed before you. Do not inquire about their gods, asking, 'How did these nations serve their gods? I will do likewise.'
16You shall destroy all the nations the LORD your God is giving over to you. Do not look on them with pity, and do not serve their gods, for that would be a snare to you.
38He drove out nations greater and mightier than you, to bring you into their land and to give it to you as an inheritance, as it is today.
23Now the Lord, the God of Israel, has driven out the Amorites before His people Israel. Would you now take possession of it?
24Do you not take what your god Chemosh gives you? Likewise, we will take possession of whatever the Lord our God has driven out before us.
1When the LORD your God eliminates the nations whose land He is giving you, and you take possession of them and settle in their cities and houses,
5The LORD your God will drive them out from before you and dispossess them from your sight, so you will take possession of their land, just as the LORD your God promised you.
3The LORD your God himself will cross ahead of you. He will destroy these nations before you, and you shall take possession of them. Joshua will cross ahead of you, as the LORD has said.
4And the LORD will do to them as he did to Sihon and Og, the kings of the Amorites, and to their land, whom he destroyed.
5The LORD will deliver them to you, and you must act toward them according to the entire commandment I have instructed you.
21See, the LORD your God has set the land before you. Go up and take possession of it, just as the LORD, the God of your fathers, has promised you. Do not be afraid or discouraged.
15This is what you shall do to all the cities that are very far from you, which are not part of the cities of these nations.
16But in the cities of these peoples that the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance, do not leave alive anything that breathes.
17Completely destroy them—the Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites—as the LORD your God has commanded you.
53You shall take possession of the land and live in it, for I have given you the land to possess.
15If you put all these people to death as one man, the nations who have heard about your fame will say,
6Be strong and courageous, for you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them.
9The LORD has driven out great and powerful nations before you, and no one has been able to stand against you to this day.
29Then I said to you, 'Do not be terrified or afraid of them.'

1When you go out to battle against your enemies and see horses, chariots, and a people more numerous than you, do not be afraid of them, for the LORD your God, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt, is with you.
18but the hill country shall be yours. Though it is a forest, you can clear it, and its farthest limits shall be yours. You will drive out the Canaanites, even though they have iron chariots and are strong.
2The LORD said to Gideon, "You have too many people with you for me to hand Midian over to them, lest Israel boast against me, claiming, 'My own strength has delivered me.'
17You may say in your heart, 'My power and the strength of my hand have produced this wealth for me.'
55But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you, then those you allow to remain will become barbs in your eyes and thorns in your sides, and they will harass you in the land where you live.
2The LORD said to me: 'Do not be afraid of him, for I have handed him over to you along with all his people and his land. Do to him as you did to Sihon, king of the Amorites, who lived in Heshbon.'
13then you can be certain that the LORD your God will no longer drive out these nations before you. Instead, they will become snares and traps for you, whips on your sides and thorns in your eyes, until you perish from this good land the LORD your God has given you.
27I will send my terror ahead of you and throw into confusion every nation you encounter. I will make all your enemies turn their backs and run.
