He proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah. 4 The people of Judah gathered together to seek help from the LORD; indeed, they came from every town in Judah to seek Him. 5 Jehoshaphat stood in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem in the house of the LORD before the new courtyard. 6 He said: 'LORD, the God of our ancestors, are you not the God in heaven? You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. In your hand are power and might, and no one can withstand you.' 7 'Our God, did you not drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel and give it forever to the descendants of Abraham, your friend?' 8 They have lived in it and have built in it a sanctuary for your name, saying, 9 'If disaster comes upon us—whether the sword, judgment, plague, or famine—we will stand before this temple and in your presence (for your name is in this temple) and cry out to you in our distress, and you will hear us and save us.' 10 'But now, here are the men from Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, whose land you would not let Israel invade when they came from Egypt; so they turned away from them and did not destroy them.' 11 'See how they are repaying us by coming to drive us out of the possession you gave us as an inheritance.' 12 Our God, will you not judge them? For we have no power to face this vast army coming against us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you. 13 All the men of Judah, with their wives, children, and little ones, stood there before the LORD. 14 Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jahaziel son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite and descendant of Asaph, as he stood in the assembly. 15 He said: 'Listen, all you people of Judah and Jerusalem! Listen, King Jehoshaphat! This is what the LORD says: Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s.' 16 Tomorrow march down against them. They will be climbing up by the Pass of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the gorge in the desert of Jeruel. 17 You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions, stand firm, and see the deliverance the LORD will give you, Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the LORD will be with you.' 18 Jehoshaphat bowed down with his face to the ground, and all the people of Judah and Jerusalem fell down in worship before the LORD. 19 Then some Levites from the Kohathites and Korahites stood up and praised the LORD, the God of Israel, with a very loud voice. 20 Early in the morning they left for the Desert of Tekoa. As they set out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, 'Listen to me, Judah and people of Jerusalem! Have faith in the LORD your God and you will be upheld; have faith in his prophets and you will be successful.' 21 Jehoshaphat consulted with the people and appointed singers to sing to the LORD and give praise in the splendor of his holiness as they went out ahead of the army, singing: 'Give thanks to the LORD, for his love endures forever.' 22 As they began to sing and praise, the LORD set ambushes against the men of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir who were invading Judah, and they were defeated. 23 The Ammonites and Moabites rose up against the men from Mount Seir to destroy and annihilate them. After they finished slaughtering the men from Seir, they helped to destroy one another. 24 When the men of Judah came to the place overlooking the desert and looked toward the vast army, they saw only dead bodies lying on the ground; no one had escaped. 25 So Jehoshaphat and his men went to carry off their plunder, and they found among them a great amount of equipment, clothing, and articles of value—more than they could take away. There was so much plunder that it took three days to collect it. 26 On the fourth day they assembled in the Valley of Berakah, where they praised the LORD. That is why it is called the Valley of Berakah to this day. 27 Then, led by Jehoshaphat, all the men of Judah and Jerusalem returned joyfully to Jerusalem, for the LORD had given them cause to rejoice over their enemies. 28 They entered Jerusalem and went to the temple of the LORD with harps, lyres, and trumpets. 29 The fear of God came on all the surrounding kingdoms when they heard how the LORD had fought against the enemies of Israel. 30 And the kingdom of Jehoshaphat was at peace, for his God had given him rest on every side.

So Jonathan said to his armor-bearer, 'Climb up after me, for the Lord has given them into the hand of Israel.' 13 Jonathan climbed up on his hands and feet, with his armor-bearer behind him. The Philistines fell before Jonathan, and his armor-bearer followed and finished them off. 14 In that first attack, Jonathan and his armor-bearer struck down about twenty men in an area of about half an acre of land.
• 1 Sam 17:45-50 : 45 David replied to the Philistine, 'You come against me with a sword, spear, and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the LORD of Hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.' 46 'Today, the LORD will deliver you into my hand. I will strike you down and cut off your head. I will give the corpses of the Philistines’ army today to the birds of the sky and the wild animals of the earth. Then the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel.' 47 'And all those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the LORD saves; for the battle belongs to the LORD, and He will give you into our hands.' 48 When the Philistine arose and came forward to meet David, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet the Philistine. 49 David reached into his bag, took out a stone, slung it, and struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell facedown to the ground. 50 So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone. Without a sword in his hand, he struck down the Philistine and killed him.
• Jer 38:14-27 : 14 Then King Zedekiah sent for Jeremiah the prophet and had him brought to the third entrance to the temple of the LORD. "I am going to ask you something," the king said to Jeremiah. "Do not hide anything from me." 15 Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, "If I give you an answer, will you not put me to death? And even if I did give you advice, you would not listen to me." 16 But King Zedekiah swore an oath secretly to Jeremiah, "As surely as the LORD lives, who has given us breath, I will neither put you to death nor hand you over to those who want to kill you." 17 Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, "This is what the LORD God Almighty, the God of Israel, says: ‘If you surrender to the officers of the king of Babylon, your life will be spared and this city will not be burned down; you and your family will live. 18 But if you will not surrender to the officers of the king of Babylon, this city will be given into the hands of the Babylonians, and they will burn it down; you yourself will not escape from their hands.’" 19 King Zedekiah said to Jeremiah, "I am afraid of the Jews who have gone over to the Babylonians, for the Babylonians may hand me over to them, and they will mistreat me." 20 Jeremiah said, "They will not hand you over. Please listen to the voice of the LORD in what I am telling you, so that it may go well for you and your life will be spared. 21 But if you refuse to surrender, this is the word the LORD has shown me: 22 "All the women who are left in the palace of the king of Judah will be brought out to the officials of the king of Babylon. They will say to you: ‘Your trusted friends have misled you and have overcome you. Your feet are sunk in the mud, and they have turned away and left you.’ 23 They will also bring out all your wives and your children to the Babylonians. You yourself will not escape from their hands but will be captured by the king of Babylon, and this city will be burned down." 24 Then Zedekiah said to Jeremiah, "Do not let anyone know about these matters, or you may die. 25 If the officials hear that I talked with you and come to you, saying, ‘Tell us what you said to the king and what the king said to you; do not hide it from us, or we will put you to death,’ 26 then tell them, ‘I was pleading with the king not to send me back to Jonathan’s house to die there.’" 27 All the officials did come to Jeremiah and questioned him, and he told them everything the king had ordered him to say. So they said no more to him, for no one had heard the conversation.
• Jer 39:1-2 : 1 In the ninth year of Zedekiah, king of Judah, in the tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, and his entire army came against Jerusalem and laid siege to it. 2 In the eleventh year of Zedekiah, on the ninth day of the fourth month, the city’s walls were breached.
• Jer 52:3-6 : 3 This happened because of the LORD's anger toward Jerusalem and Judah, until He finally cast them out of His presence. Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon. 4 In the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, on the tenth day of the month, Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, came with his entire army against Jerusalem. They encamped around it and built siege works all around it. 5 So the city was besieged until the eleventh year of King Zedekiah. 6 By the fourth month, on the ninth day, the famine in the city had become so severe that there was no more food for the people of the land.
• Ezek 14:3-7 : 3 Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their hearts and placed the stumbling block of their iniquity before their faces. Should I really let myself be consulted by them? 4 Therefore, speak to them and say to them, 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Any man from the house of Israel who sets up his idols in his heart and puts the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face and then comes to the prophet—I, the LORD, will answer him myself in keeping with the multitude of his idols.' 5 So that I may seize the house of Israel by their hearts, because they have all turned away from me through their idols. 6 Therefore, say to the house of Israel, 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Repent and turn away from your idols and turn your faces away from all your detestable practices.' 7 For if any man from the house of Israel or any foreigner living in Israel separates himself from me, sets up idols in his heart, places the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face, and then comes to the prophet to inquire of me, I, the LORD, will answer him myself.
• Exod 14:1-9 : 1 The LORD spoke to Moses, saying: 2 Speak to the Israelites and tell them to turn back and camp in front of Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea. Camp in front of Baal Zephon, opposite it by the sea. 3 Pharaoh will think of the Israelites, 'They are wandering aimlessly in the land; the wilderness has trapped them.' 4 I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and he will chase after them. But I will use Pharaoh and his whole army to demonstrate my glory, so that the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD.” The Israelites did as they were instructed. 5 When the king of Egypt was told that the people had fled, Pharaoh and his officials changed their minds about the Israelites. They said, “What have we done? We have let the Israelites go and lost their services!” 6 So Pharaoh prepared his chariot and took his army with him. 7 He took six hundred of the best chariots, as well as all the other chariots of Egypt, with officers in charge of all of them. 8 The LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, so that he pursued the Israelites, who were marching out boldly. 9 The Egyptians pursued them—all Pharaoh’s horses and chariots, his horsemen, and his army—and they overtook them as they camped by the sea, near Pi-hahiroth, opposite Baal Zephon. 10 As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up, and there were the Egyptians marching after them! They were terrified and cried out to the LORD. 11 They said to Moses, “Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us to die in the wilderness? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt? 12 Isn't this what we told you in Egypt, saying, 'Leave us alone so we can serve the Egyptians'? It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness. 13 Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm, and you will see the LORD's salvation, which He will accomplish for you today. The Egyptians you see today, you will never see again forever. 14 The LORD will fight for you; you need only to remain silent. 15 Then the LORD said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move forward.
• Josh 10:1-9 : 1 Now when Adoni-Zedek, king of Jerusalem, heard how Joshua had captured Ai and devoted it to destruction—doing to Ai and its king as he had done to Jericho and its king—and how the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel and were living among them, 2 he and his people were very afraid because Gibeon was a great city, like one of the royal cities, even greater than Ai, and all its men were mighty warriors. 3 So Adoni-Zedek, king of Jerusalem, sent word to Hoham, king of Hebron, to Piram, king of Jarmuth, to Japhia, king of Lachish, and to Debir, king of Eglon, saying, 4 “Come up to me and help me; let us attack Gibeon, for it has made peace with Joshua and the people of Israel.” 5 Then the five kings of the Amorites—the kings of Jerusalem, Hebron, Jarmuth, Lachish, and Eglon—joined forces, and they and their armies moved out, camped near Gibeon, and prepared to attack it. 6 The men of Gibeon sent a message to Joshua at the camp in Gilgal: “Do not abandon your servants. Come up to us quickly and save us! Help us, for all the kings of the Amorites living in the hill country have gathered against us.” 7 So Joshua marched up from Gilgal with all the warriors and the mighty men of valor. 8 And the LORD said to Joshua, “Do not be afraid of them. I have given them into your hand; not one of them will be able to stand against you.” 9 After marching all night from Gilgal, Joshua took them by surprise. 10 And the LORD threw them into panic before Israel, and Joshua and his forces inflicted a great defeat on them at Gibeon. They pursued them along the road to the Beth-horon ascent and struck them down as far as Azekah and Makkedah. 11 As they fled before Israel down the road from Beth-horon to Azekah, the LORD hurled large hailstones down on them from heaven, and they died. More of them died from the hailstones than were killed by the swords of the Israelites.
• Judg 4:1-5 : 1 The Israelites again did what was evil in the sight of the LORD after Ehud had died. 2 So the LORD sold them into the hand of Jabin, king of Canaan, who reigned in Hazor, and the commander of his army was Sisera, who lived in Harosheth-hagoyim. 3 The Israelites cried out to the LORD for help, for Sisera had nine hundred iron chariots, and he oppressed the Israelites cruelly for twenty years. 4 Now Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lappidoth, was judging Israel at that time. 5 She would sit under the Palm of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim, and the Israelites came up to her for judgment.
