    7There was a young man from Bethlehem in Judah, from the family of Judah. He was a Levite, and he was residing there temporarily.

    8The man left the city of Bethlehem in Judah to find a place to stay. He traveled until he reached the hill country of Ephraim and came to Micah's house as part of his journey.

  • 19But even Judah did not keep the commandments of the Lord their God. They followed the practices of Israel as the Israelites had done.

  • 6In the days of Shamgar son of Anath, in the days of Jael, the highways were abandoned; travelers took to winding paths.

  • 17All of them were recorded in the genealogies during the reigns of Jotham, king of Judah, and Jeroboam, king of Israel.

  • 19No blacksmith could be found throughout the whole land of Israel, because the Philistines said, 'Otherwise, the Hebrews might make swords or spears.'

  • 19But when the judge died, they returned to ways even more corrupt than those of their ancestors, following other gods, serving them, and bowing down to them. They refused to give up their evil practices and stubborn ways.

    12Micah ordained the Levite, and the young man became his priest and lived in Micah's house.

    13Then Micah said, 'Now I know that the LORD will be good to me, because I have a Levite as my priest.'

  • 12But when you saw that Nahash, king of the Ammonites, came against you, you said to me, ‘No, we want a king to reign over us,’ even though the LORD your God was your king.

  • 10Where now is your king to save you in all your cities? And where are your rulers, about whom you said, 'Give me a king and princes'?

  • 19The people refused to listen to Samuel and said, 'No! We want a king to rule over us.'

  • 18Do what is right and good in the sight of the LORD, so that it may go well with you, and you may go in and possess the good land the LORD promised to your ancestors.

  • 27And the Israelites inquired of the LORD (the Ark of the Covenant of God was there in those days),

  • 8They followed the practices of the nations whom the Lord had driven out before the Israelites, as well as the practices of the kings of Israel that they themselves had introduced.

  • 3However, his sons did not follow his ways. They turned aside to dishonest gain, took bribes, and perverted justice.

  • 15Samuel continued to judge Israel all the days of his life.
