17 Zion stretches out her hands, but there is no one to comfort her. The LORD has decreed for Jacob that his neighbors become his foes; Jerusalem has become an unclean thing among them.
18 The LORD is righteous, for I have rebelled against his word. Listen, all you peoples; look at my suffering. My young women and my young men have gone into captivity.
19 I called to my lovers, but they deceived me. My priests and my elders perished in the city while searching for food to revive their strength.
20 See, LORD, how distressed I am! I am in anguish within, my heart is overturned because I have been very rebellious. Outside, the sword bereaves; inside, there is only death.
21 People have heard my groaning, but there is no one to comfort me. All my enemies have heard of my trouble; they are glad that you have done it. Bring the day you have announced, so they may become like me.
22 Let all their wickedness come before you; deal with them as you have dealt with me because of all my sins. My groans are many, and my heart is faint.
1 How lonely sits the city, once so full of people! She has become like a widow, great among the nations, a princess among the provinces, now a slave.
2 Bitterly she weeps in the night, tears on her cheeks. There is no one to comfort her—all who loved her have betrayed her; they have become her enemies.
3 Judah has gone into exile, suffering and hard service. She lives among the nations but finds no rest. All her pursuers have overtaken her in narrow places.
4 The roads to Zion mourn, for no one comes to her appointed festivals. All her gates are desolate; her priests groan, her young women grieve, and she is in bitter anguish.
5 Her adversaries have become her masters; her enemies prosper because the LORD has afflicted her for her many sins. Her children have gone into captivity before the enemy.
6 All the splendor has departed from Daughter Zion. Her princes are like deer that find no pasture; they flee without strength before the pursuer.
7 In the days of her affliction and wandering, Jerusalem remembers all the treasures that were hers in days of old. When her people fell into the hand of the enemy, there was no one to help her. Her enemies saw her and mocked her downfall.
8 Jerusalem has sinned greatly and so has become unclean. All who honored her despise her, for they have seen her nakedness; she herself groans and turns away.
9 Her uncleanness clings to her skirts; she did not consider her future. Her fall was astounding; there was no one to comfort her. "Look, LORD, on my affliction, for the enemy has triumphed."
10 The enemy has laid hands on all her treasures; she saw nations enter her sanctuary—those you had forbidden to enter your assembly.
11 My eyes are worn out from weeping, my inner being is in turmoil; my heart is poured out on the ground because of the destruction of my people, as children and infants faint in the streets of the city.
12 They cry out to their mothers, 'Where is the bread and the wine?' as they faint like the wounded in the streets of the city, and as they breathe their last in their mothers’ arms.
4 Therefore I said, 'Turn away from me, let me weep bitterly. Do not try to comfort me concerning the destruction of my people.'
9 You have not handed me over to the enemy, but you have set my feet in a spacious place.
10 Be gracious to me, O LORD, for I am in distress. My eyes grow weak with sorrow, as do my soul and my body.
18 My grief is beyond healing; my heart is faint within me.
19 Listen to the cry of my people from a land far away: 'Is the LORD not in Zion? Is her King no longer there?' Why have they provoked me to anger with their idols, with their worthless foreign gods?
20 Look, LORD, and consider: Whom have you ever treated like this? Should women eat their own children, the little ones they have cherished? Should priest and prophet be killed in the sanctuary of the Lord?
9 All day long my enemies taunt me; those who ridicule me use my name as a curse.
19 These double calamities have come upon you—destruction and devastation, famine and sword. Who will console you?

20 You know my reproach, my shame, and my disgrace; all my adversaries are before you.
1 Remember, LORD, what has happened to us; look and see our disgrace.
7 My soul refuses to touch them; they are like loathsome food to me.
11 They have made it a desolation, and it mourns before me. The whole land is desolate, but no one takes it to heart.
3 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?
17 'In this way, they will lack bread and water, and they will be appalled at one another and waste away because of their iniquity.'
20 But, LORD of Hosts, who judges righteously and tests the heart and mind, let me see your vengeance on them, for I have presented my case to you.
