  • 2 Chr 12:1-9 : 1 When the kingdom of Rehoboam was established and he became strong, he abandoned the law of the LORD, and all Israel followed him. 2 In the fifth year of King Rehoboam, Shishak, king of Egypt, attacked Jerusalem because they had been unfaithful to the LORD. 3 He came with 1,200 chariots and 60,000 horsemen, and countless troops came with him from Egypt—Libyans, Sukkites, and Cushites. 4 He captured the fortified cities of Judah and advanced as far as Jerusalem. 5 Then Shemaiah the prophet came to Rehoboam and the leaders of Judah, who had gathered in Jerusalem because of Shishak. He said to them, "This is what the LORD says: 'You have abandoned me; therefore, I now abandon you to Shishak.'" 6 The leaders of Israel and the king humbled themselves and said, "The LORD is righteous." 7 When the LORD saw that they humbled themselves, the word of the LORD came to Shemaiah: "Since they have humbled themselves, I will not destroy them, but will grant them some deliverance. My anger will not be poured out on Jerusalem through Shishak. 8 However, they will become his servants, so that they may learn the difference between serving me and serving the kings of other lands." 9 Shishak, king of Egypt, came up against Jerusalem and took the treasures of the house of the LORD and the treasures of the royal palace. He took everything, including the gold shields Solomon had made. 10 King Rehoboam made bronze shields to replace them and entrusted them to the officers of the guards who protected the entrance to the royal palace. 11 Whenever the king entered the house of the LORD, the guards would carry the shields, and then they would return them to the guardroom. 12 When Rehoboam humbled himself, the LORD's anger turned away from him, and He did not completely destroy him. Furthermore, there were still good things in Judah.
  • Ps 44:9-9 : 9 In God we make our boast all day long, and we will give thanks to Your name forever. Selah. 10 Yet You have rejected and humiliated us, and You no longer go out with our armies. 11 You make us retreat before the enemy, and those who hate us have plundered us for themselves. 12 You delivered us like sheep to be eaten and have scattered us among the nations. 13 You sold Your people for nothing and made no profit from their sale. 14 You have made us a reproach to our neighbors, a mockery and derision to those around us. 15 You have made us a byword among the nations, a shaking of heads among the peoples. 16 All day long my disgrace is before me, and shame has covered my face. 17 This is from the taunts of those who insult and revile, from the presence of the enemy and the avenger. 18 All this has come upon us, yet we have not forgotten You, nor have we been false to Your covenant. 19 Our hearts have not turned back, nor have our steps strayed from Your path. 20 You have crushed us in the place of jackals and covered us with deep darkness. 21 If we had forgotten the name of our God or spread out our hands to a foreign god, 22 would God not have discovered this? For He knows the secrets of the heart. 23 Yet for Your sake we face death all day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered. 24 Awake, Lord! Why do You sleep? Rouse Yourself; do not reject us forever. 25 Why do You hide Your face and forget our misery and oppression? 26 Our soul has sunk into the dust; our body clings to the earth.
