It grieves Me that I have set up Saul to be king: for he has turned back from following Me, and has not performed My commandments. And it grieved Samuel; and he cried to the LORD all night.

    29And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for He is not a man, that He should repent.

    30Then he said, I have sinned: yet honor me now, I pray you, before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and turn again with me, that I may worship the LORD your God.

    31So Samuel turned again after Saul; and Saul worshipped the LORD.

And Saul answered, I am in great distress; for the Philistines make war against me, and God has departed from me and does not answer me anymore, neither by prophets nor by dreams. Therefore I have called you, that you may make known to me what I shall do.

    16Then Samuel said, Why do you ask me, seeing the LORD has departed from you and has become your enemy?

    17The LORD has done to you as he spoke by me: for the LORD has torn the kingdom out of your hand and given it to your neighbor, to David.

    12Therefore I said, The Philistines will come down now upon me to Gilgal, and I have not sought the favor of the LORD; I forced myself therefore, and offered a burnt offering.

    13And Samuel said to Saul, You have done foolishly; you have not kept the commandment of the LORD your God, which he commanded you: for now the LORD would have established your kingdom upon Israel forever.

    14But now your kingdom shall not continue: the LORD has sought for Himself a man after His own heart, and the LORD has appointed him to be captain over His people, because you have not kept what the LORD commanded you.

    15Then Samuel arose and went up from Gilgal to Gibeah of Benjamin. And Saul numbered the people that were present with him, about six hundred men.
