And they scolded her harshly. 6 But Jesus said, "Leave her alone. Why are you troubling her? She has done a beautiful thing for me. 7 For you will always have the poor with you, and you can help them whenever you want, but you will not always have me. 8 She did what she could; she anointed my body beforehand for burial. 9 Truly I tell you, wherever the gospel is preached throughout the whole world, what she has done will also be told in memory of her.

If anyone walks during the day, he won't stumble, because he sees by this world's light.' 10 'But if anyone walks at night, he stumbles, because there is no light in him.' 11 After he said this, he told them, 'Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I am going to wake him up.' 12 The disciples said to him, 'Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will recover.' 13 Jesus, however, had been speaking about his death, but they thought he was referring to natural sleep. 14 So Jesus told them plainly, 'Lazarus has died.' 15 I am glad for your sake that I was not there, so that you may believe.
