    7Then Saul said to his servants, "Find me a woman who is a medium, so I can go and consult her." His servants replied, "There is a woman who is a medium at En-dor."

    8So Saul disguised himself by wearing other clothes. He went, accompanied by two men, and they came to the woman at night. Saul said, "Consult a spirit for me and bring up for me the one I name to you."

    10Saul swore to her by the LORD, "As surely as the LORD lives, you will not be punished for this."

    11Then the woman asked, "Whom shall I bring up for you?" Saul answered, "Bring up Samuel for me."

    13The king said to her, "Do not be afraid. What do you see?" The woman said to Saul, "I see a spirit coming up out of the earth."

    14Saul asked her, "What does he look like?" She replied, "An old man is coming up, and he is wrapped in a robe." Then Saul knew it was Samuel, and he bowed with his face to the ground in reverence.

    15Samuel said to Saul, "Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?" Saul answered, "I am deeply distressed. The Philistines are waging war against me, and God has turned away from me. He no longer answers me, not by prophets or by dreams. Therefore, I have called upon you to tell me what I should do."

    16Samuel said, "Why do you consult me, now that the LORD has turned away from you and has become your enemy?

    17The LORD has done as he spoke through me. He has torn the kingdom out of your hand and given it to your neighbor, to David.

    20Immediately Saul fell full length on the ground, paralyzed with fear because of Samuel's words. There was no strength left in him, for he had not eaten anything all day and all night.

    21When the woman came to Saul and saw that he was greatly distressed, she said to him, "Behold, your servant has obeyed you. I have taken my life in my hands and done as you requested.

    22Now please listen to your servant and let me set a piece of bread before you to eat, so you may have strength when you go on your way."

    11Samuel said, "What have you done?" Saul answered, "When I saw that the people were scattering from me, and you did not come within the appointed days, and that the Philistines were assembling at Michmash,

    12I said, 'Now the Philistines will come down against me at Gilgal, and I have not sought the Lord’s favor.' So I forced myself and offered the burnt offering."

    13Samuel said to Saul, "You have acted foolishly. You have not kept the command of the Lord your God, which He gave you. If you had, the Lord would have established your kingdom over Israel forever.

    17When Samuel saw Saul, the LORD said to him, "Here is the man I told you about; he will govern my people."

    18Saul approached Samuel at the city gate and asked, "Please tell me where the seer's house is."

    19Samuel answered, "I am the seer. Go up ahead of me to the high place, for you will eat with me today. In the morning, I will send you on your way and tell you all that is on your heart.

    10Then the word of the LORD came to Samuel, saying:

    11I regret that I have made Saul king, for he has turned away from following me and has not carried out my commands. This grieved Samuel, and he cried out to the LORD all night.

    12Early in the morning, Samuel got up to meet Saul, but he was told, 'Saul went to Carmel and has set up a monument in his own honor. Then he turned and went down to Gilgal.'

    13When Samuel reached him, Saul said, 'Blessed are you of the LORD! I have carried out the LORD's instruction.'

    14But Samuel said, 'What is this sound of sheep and cattle that I hear?'

    35Samuel never saw Saul again until the day of his death. Nevertheless, Samuel mourned for Saul, and the LORD regretted that He had made Saul king over Israel.
