  • 2 Sam 6:1-9 : 1 David again gathered all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand in number. 2 David set out with all the people who were with him from Baale of Judah to bring up from there the ark of God, which is called by the name, the name of the LORD of Hosts, who is enthroned above the cherubim. 3 They placed the ark of God on a new cart and brought it out of the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill. Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, were guiding the new cart. 4 They carried the ark of God out of Abinadab’s house, which was on the hill, and Ahio walked in front of the ark. 5 David and all the house of Israel were celebrating before the LORD with all kinds of instruments made of fir wood—lyres, harps, tambourines, rattles, and cymbals. 6 When they came to the threshing floor of Nacon, Uzzah reached out his hand to the ark of God to steady it, for the oxen had stumbled. 7 The LORD's anger burned against Uzzah, and God struck him down there for his irreverence. He died there beside the ark of God. 8 David was angry because the LORD had broken out against Uzzah, and that place was called Perez Uzzah, as it is to this day. 9 David was afraid of the LORD that day and said, 'How can the ark of the LORD ever come to me?' 10 So David was not willing to bring the ark of the LORD to the City of David. Instead, he took it to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite. 11 The ark of the LORD remained in the house of Obed-edom the Gittite for three months, and the LORD blessed Obed-edom and his entire household. 12 When King David was told, 'The LORD has blessed the house of Obed-edom and all that belongs to him because of the ark of God,' David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-edom to the City of David with rejoicing. 13 When those carrying the ark of the LORD had taken six steps, he sacrificed a bull and a fattened calf. 14 David, wearing a linen ephod, danced with all his might before the LORD. 15 David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouts and the sound of trumpets. 16 As the ark of the LORD entered the City of David, Michal, daughter of Saul, looked out from the window. When she saw King David leaping and dancing before the LORD, she despised him in her heart. 17 They brought the ark of the LORD and set it in its place inside the tent that David had pitched for it. Then David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD. 18 When David had finished offering the burnt offerings and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD of Hosts. 19 He distributed food among all the people, the whole multitude of Israel, both men and women: to each person a loaf of bread, a portion of meat, and a cake of raisins. Then all the people returned to their homes. 20 When David returned to bless his household, Michal, daughter of Saul, came out to meet him and said, 'How the king of Israel has distinguished himself today, uncovering himself in the sight of the servant girls of his officials, as a vulgar person might shamelessly uncover himself!' 21 David said to Michal, 'It was before the LORD who chose me rather than your father or anyone from his house when He appointed me ruler over the people of the LORD, over Israel. I will celebrate before the LORD!' 22 I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humble in my own eyes. But by the servant girls you spoke of, I will be held in honor.' 23 And Michal, daughter of Saul, had no children to the day of her death.
  • 1 Kgs 8:4 : 4 The priests and Levites brought up the Ark of the LORD, the Tent of Meeting, and all the holy vessels that were in the tent.
  • 1 Chr 15:1-9 : 1 David built houses for himself in the City of David, prepared a place for the ark of God, and pitched a tent for it. 2 Then David said, "The ark of God must not be carried by anyone but the Levites, for the LORD has chosen them to carry the ark of the LORD and to minister before Him forever." 3 David gathered all Israel in Jerusalem to bring up the ark of the LORD to the place he had prepared for it. 4 He also assembled the descendants of Aaron and the Levites. 5 From the descendants of Kohath, Uriel the chief, along with his relatives—120 in total. 6 From the descendants of Merari, Asaiah the chief, along with his relatives—220 in total. 7 From the descendants of Gershom, Joel the chief, along with his relatives—130 in total. 8 From the descendants of Elizaphan, Shemaiah the chief, along with his relatives—200 in total. 9 From the descendants of Hebron, Eliel the chief, along with his relatives—80 in total. 10 From the descendants of Uzziel, Amminadab the chief, along with his relatives—112 in total. 11 David summoned Zadok and Abiathar, the priests, and the Levites: Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah, Eliel, and Amminadab. 12 He said to them, "You are the heads of the Levitical families. Consecrate yourselves, you and your relatives, so that you may bring up the ark of the LORD, the God of Israel, to the place I prepared for it. 13 For because you did not carry it the first time, the LORD our God broke out against us, since we did not seek Him according to the proper procedure." 14 So the priests and the Levites consecrated themselves in order to bring up the ark of the LORD, the God of Israel. 15 The Levites carried the ark of God on their shoulders with the poles, as Moses had commanded according to the word of the LORD. 16 David instructed the leaders of the Levites to appoint their fellow Levites as singers, to sing joyful songs accompanied by musical instruments—harps, lyres, and cymbals. 17 So the Levites appointed Heman son of Joel, Asaph son of Berechiah from his relatives, and Ethan son of Kushaiah from the descendants of Merari, their brothers.

  • Josh 3:6-7 : 6 Joshua told the priests, 'Take up the ark of the covenant and go ahead of the people.' So they took up the ark of the covenant and went ahead of the people. 7 The LORD said to Joshua, 'Today I will begin to exalt you in the sight of all Israel, so that they may know that just as I was with Moses, I will be with you.'
  • Josh 3:11-17 : 11 'Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth is passing ahead of you into the Jordan.' 12 Now then, select twelve men from the tribes of Israel, one man from each tribe. 13 When the feet of the priests who carry the ark of the LORD—the Lord of all the earth—rest in the waters of the Jordan, the water flowing down from upstream will be cut off and will stand in a heap. 14 So when the people set out from their tents to cross the Jordan, the priests carrying the ark of the covenant went ahead of them. 15 Now as the priests who carried the ark came to the Jordan, and their feet touched the edge of the water (for the Jordan overflows all its banks during the harvest season), 16 the water flowing down from upstream stood still. It rose up in a heap a great distance away, at a town called Adam near Zarethan. Meanwhile, the water flowing down to the Sea of the Arabah (the Salt Sea) was completely cut off, and the people crossed opposite Jericho. 17 The priests carrying the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firmly on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan, while all Israel crossed on dry ground until the entire nation had finished crossing the Jordan.
