  • Neh 9:12-23 : 12 Moreover, You led them by day with a pillar of cloud, and by night with a pillar of fire, to give them light on the way they should go. 13 You came down also on Mount Sinai, and spoke with them from heaven, and gave them just statutes and true laws, good statutes and commandments. 14 You made known to them Your holy Sabbath, and commanded them precepts, statutes, and laws, by the hand of Moses Your servant. 15 You gave them bread from heaven for their hunger, and brought forth water for them out of the rock for their thirst, and promised them that they would go in to possess the land which You had sworn to give them. 16 But they and our forefathers acted proudly, hardened their necks, and did not heed Your commandments. 17 They refused to obey, and were not mindful of Your wonders that You did among them. But they hardened their necks, and in their rebellion appointed a leader to return to their bondage. But You are a God ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abundant in kindness, and did not forsake them. 18 Even when they made a molten calf for themselves, and said, 'This is your God that brought you up out of Egypt,' and committed great provocations, 19 Yet in Your overwhelming mercies, You did not forsake them in the wilderness; the pillar of cloud did not depart from them by day to lead them on the way, nor the pillar of fire by night to show them light and the way they should go. 20 You also gave Your good Spirit to instruct them, and did not withhold Your manna from their mouth, and gave them water for their thirst. 21 For forty years You sustained them in the wilderness, so that they lacked nothing; their clothes did not wear out and their feet did not swell. 22 Moreover, You gave them kingdoms and nations, and divided them into districts: So they possessed the land of Sihon, the land of the king of Heshbon, and the land of Og king of Bashan. 23 You also multiplied their children as the stars of heaven, and brought them into the land which You had promised to their forefathers they would enter and possess.
  • Ps 78:14-28 : 14 In the daytime also he led them with a cloud, and all the night with a light of fire. 15 He split the rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink as from the great depths. 16 He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers. 17 And they sinned yet more against him by provoking the Most High in the wilderness. 18 And they tempted God in their heart by asking meat for their desire. 19 Yes, they spoke against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness? 20 Behold, he struck the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people? 21 Therefore the LORD heard this, and was wroth: so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel; 22 Because they did not believe in God, and did not trust in his salvation: 23 Though he had commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven, 24 And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the grain of heaven. 25 Man did eat angels' food: he sent them meat to the full. 26 He caused an east wind to blow in the heaven: and by his power he brought in the south wind. 27 He rained flesh also upon them as dust, and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea: 28 And he let it fall in the midst of their camp, all around their habitations.
  • Ps 105:39-41 : 39 He spread a cloud for a covering; and fire to give light in the night. 40 The people asked, and he brought quail, and satisfied them with the bread of heaven. 41 He opened the rock, and the waters gushed out; they ran in the dry places like a river.
  • Exod 16:1-9 : 1 And they journeyed from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came to the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departure from the land of Egypt. 2 And the whole congregation of the children of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness. 3 And the children of Israel said to them, If only we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots of meat, and when we ate bread to the full; for you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger. 4 Then the LORD said to Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain amount every day, that I may test them, whether they will walk in my law or not. 5 And it shall come to pass that on the sixth day they shall prepare what they bring in, and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily. 6 And Moses and Aaron said to all the children of Israel, At evening, you shall know that the LORD has brought you out from the land of Egypt. 7 And in the morning, you shall see the glory of the LORD; for he hears your complaints against the LORD: and what are we, that you complain against us? 8 And Moses said, This shall be when the LORD gives you meat to eat in the evening and bread to the full in the morning; for the LORD hears your complaints which you make against him: and what are we? Your complaints are not against us, but against the LORD. 9 And Moses spoke to Aaron, Say to all the congregation of the children of Israel, Come near before the LORD, for he has heard your complaints. 10 And it came to pass, as Aaron spoke to the whole congregation of the children of Israel, that they looked toward the wilderness, and behold, the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud. 11 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 12 I have heard the complaints of the children of Israel: speak to them, saying, At evening you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread; and you shall know that I am the LORD your God. 13 And it came to pass that in the evening the quails came up and covered the camp; and in the morning the dew lay all around the camp. 14 And when the dew had gone up, there on the surface of the wilderness lay a small round thing, as small as the frost on the ground. 15 And when the children of Israel saw it, they said to one another, What is it? For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, This is the bread which the LORD has given you to eat. 16 This is the thing which the LORD has commanded: Gather of it every man according to his need, an omer for every person, according to the number of your people; each man take for those who are in his tent. 17 And the children of Israel did so, and gathered, some more, some less.
