19Now listen to me; I will give you advice, and may God be with you. You must be the people's representative before God and bring their disputes to Him.
20Teach them the statutes and the laws, and show them the way they must walk and the work they must do.
21But select capable men from among all the people—men who fear God, are trustworthy, and hate dishonest gain. Appoint them as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties, and tens.
22Let them judge the people at all times. Have them bring every difficult case to you, but have them decide simple cases themselves. That will make your load lighter, because they will share it with you.
18Then Moses went back to Jethro, his father-in-law, and said to him, 'Please let me return to my relatives in Egypt to see if they are still alive.' And Jethro said to Moses, 'Go in peace.'
20Moses said to them, "If you will do this—if you arm yourselves for battle before the Lord,

7So Moses came and summoned the elders of the people. He set before them all the words that the LORD had commanded him.
