He took some old rags and worn-out clothes from there and let them down to Jeremiah in the cistern with ropes. 12 Ebed-Melech the Cushite said to Jeremiah, "Put these worn-out rags and clothes under your arms to pad the ropes." Jeremiah did so, 13 and they pulled Jeremiah up with the ropes and lifted him out of the cistern. And Jeremiah stayed in the courtyard of the guard.

  • 17The poor and needy search for water, but there is none; their tongues are parched with thirst. But I, the Lord, will answer them; I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them.

  • 50You who have escaped the sword, go! Do not linger. Remember the Lord from afar, and let Jerusalem come to your mind.

  • 18Whoever flees at the sound of terror will fall into the pit, and whoever climbs out of the pit will be caught in the snare; for the floodgates of the heavens are opened, and the foundations of the earth shake.
