Walk in all the ways I command you, so that it may go well with you. 24 But they did not listen or incline their ear; instead, they walked in their own counsels and in the stubbornness of their evil hearts. They went backward, not forward. 25 From the day your ancestors came out of the land of Egypt until this day, I sent all my servants the prophets to you, again and again. 26 But they did not listen to me or incline their ear; instead, they stiffened their necks and did worse than their ancestors. 27 When you speak all these words to them, they will not listen to you; when you call to them, they will not answer you. 28 So you shall say to them, 'This is the nation that did not obey the voice of the LORD their God or accept discipline; truth has perished and is cut off from their lips.'
  • Ezek 23:3-9 : 3 They committed adultery in Egypt; in their youth, they acted unfaithfully. There, their breasts were fondled, and their virginity was violated. 4 Their names were Oholah, the elder, and Oholibah, her sister. They became mine and gave birth to sons and daughters. Their names represent Samaria as Oholah, and Jerusalem as Oholibah. 5 Oholah was unfaithful to me and lusted after her lovers—the Assyrians, who were near. 6 They were clothed in blue, governors and officials, all of them young and desirable men, skilled horsemen riding on horses. 7 She gave herself to them, all the elite of the Assyrians, and defiled herself with all the idols she lusted after. 8 She did not abandon the adulteries she began in Egypt, where men slept with her in her youth, fondling her virgin breasts and pouring out their lust upon her. 9 Therefore, I handed her over to her lovers, the Assyrians whom she lusted after. 10 They exposed her nakedness, seized her sons and daughters, and killed her with the sword. She became a byword among women, and they carried out judgment against her. 11 Her sister Oholibah saw this, yet she was even more corrupt in her lust, and her adulteries exceeded those of her sister. 12 She too lusted after the Assyrians—governors and officials nearby—elegantly clothed, skilled horsemen, and all young and desirable men. 13 I saw that she too was defiled; both had followed the same corrupt path. 14 But she went even further with her adulteries. She saw men carved on the walls, images of the Chaldeans portrayed in vermilion. 15 They were girded with belts at their waists, with flowing turbans on their heads. All of them looked like officers, resembling the men of Babylon, born in Chaldea. 16 As soon as she saw them, she lusted after them and sent messengers to them in Chaldea. 17 Then the Babylonians came to her, to her bed of love, and defiled her with their lust. After she was defiled by them, she turned away from them in disgust. 18 When she openly displayed her prostitution and exposed her nakedness, I turned away from her in disgust, just as I had turned away from her sister. 19 Yet she increased her prostitution, remembering the days of her youth when she prostituted herself in the land of Egypt. 20 She lusted after her lovers there, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses. 21 So you revisited the lewdness of your youth, when the Egyptians fondled your breasts and caressed your young bosom. 22 Therefore, Oholibah, this is what the Lord GOD says: 'I am about to stir up your lovers against you, those from whom you turned away in disgust, and I will bring them against you from every side— 23 the Babylonians and all the Chaldeans, Pekod, Shoa, and Koa, and all the Assyrians with them, handsome young men, governors and commanders, chariot soldiers, and men of renown, all mounted on horses. 24 They will come against you with weapons, chariots, and wagons, and with a vast army. They will take up shields, helmets, and armor against you on every side. I will hand you over to them for judgment, and they will punish you according to their laws. 25 I will direct my jealous fury against you, and they will deal with you in anger. They will cut off your nose and ears, and your survivors will fall by the sword. They will take your sons and daughters, and those who remain will be consumed by fire. 26 They will strip you of your clothes and take your beautiful jewelry. 27 So I will put an end to your lewdness and your prostitution, which you brought from the land of Egypt. You will not look longingly at them again or remember Egypt anymore. 28 For this is what the Sovereign LORD says: 'I am about to deliver you into the hands of those you hate, into the hands of those you turned away from in disgust.' 29 They will deal with you in hatred, take away all you have worked for, and leave you naked and bare. The shame of your prostitution will be exposed—your lewdness and promiscuity. 30 These things will be done to you because you prostituted yourself to the nations, defiling yourself with their idols. 31 You have followed in the path of your sister; therefore, I will put her cup into your hand. 32 This is what the Sovereign LORD says: 'You will drink your sister’s cup, a cup deep and wide. It will bring scorn and ridicule, as it holds much to bear.' 33 It will be a cup filled with drunkenness and sorrow, a cup of horror and desolation, the cup of your sister Samaria. 34 You will drink it and drain it dry, and then gnaw on its broken pieces and tear your breasts. For I have spoken, declares the Sovereign LORD. 35 Therefore this is what the Sovereign LORD says: 'Because you have forgotten me and thrust me behind your back, you must also bear the consequences of your lewdness and prostitution.' 36 The LORD said to me: 'Son of man, will you judge Oholah and Oholibah? Then confront them with their abominations.' 37 For they have committed adultery and blood is on their hands. They committed adultery with their idols; they even sacrificed their children, whom they bore to me, passing them through the fire as food for their idols. 38 They have also done this to me: On the same day they defiled my sanctuary and desecrated my Sabbaths. 39 When they slaughtered their children as sacrifices to their idols, they came to my sanctuary on the same day to desecrate it. See, this is what they have done in my house.

  • Jer 36:21-26 : 21 The king sent Jehudi to get the scroll. Jehudi brought it from the chamber of Elishama the secretary and read it aloud to the king and all the officials standing by him. 22 Now the king was sitting in the winter house in the ninth month, and a firepot was burning in front of him. 23 As Jehudi read three or four columns of the scroll, the king would cut them off with a scribe’s knife and throw them into the fire in the firepot, until the entire scroll was consumed in the fire. 24 Neither the king nor any of his servants who heard all these words were afraid or tore their garments in sorrow. 25 Even though Elnathan, Delaiah, and Gemariah urged the king not to burn the scroll, he would not listen to them. 26 Instead, the king commanded Jerahmeel, a royal prince, Seraiah son of Azriel, and Shelemiah son of Abdeel to arrest Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet. But the LORD had hidden them.
  • Ezek 20:8 : 8 But they rebelled against me and would not listen to me; none of them got rid of the detestable things their eyes were set on, nor did they forsake the idols of Egypt. So I said I would pour out my wrath on them and unleash my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.
  • Ezek 20:13 : 13 But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness. • Deut 32:15-20 : 15 But Jeshurun grew fat and kicked; you grew fat, thick, and bloated. Then he forsook the God who made him and treated with contempt the Rock of his salvation. 16 They made Him jealous with strange gods and provoked Him to anger with detestable practices. 17 They sacrificed to demons, not to God, to gods they had not known, to new gods that had recently appeared, gods your ancestors did not fear. 18 You ignored the Rock who begot you; you forgot the God who gave you birth. 19 The LORD saw this and despised them out of His anger at His sons and daughters. 20 He said: I will hide My face from them; I will see what their end will be, for they are a perverse generation, children in whom there is no faithfulness.
  • Judg 2:11-19 : 11 The Israelites did evil in the eyes of the LORD and served the Baals. 12 They abandoned the LORD, the God of their ancestors, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt. They followed other gods, the gods of the peoples around them. They bowed down to them and provoked the LORD to anger. 13 They abandoned the LORD and worshipped Baal and the Ashtaroth. 14 The anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and he gave them into the hands of raiders who plundered them. He sold them into the hands of their enemies all around, and they could no longer stand before their enemies. 15 Wherever they went out, the hand of the LORD was against them to bring disaster on them, as the LORD had said and sworn to them. And they were in great distress. 16 Then the LORD raised up judges who saved them from the hands of those who plundered them. 17 Yet they did not listen to their judges but prostituted themselves by worshiping other gods. They turned quickly from the way their ancestors had walked in obedience to the LORD’s commandments. They did not do as their ancestors had done. 18 Whenever the LORD raised up a judge for them, he was with the judge and saved them from the hands of their enemies as long as the judge lived. For the LORD was moved to pity by their groaning because of those who oppressed and afflicted them. 19 But when the judge died, they returned to ways even more corrupt than those of their ancestors, following other gods, serving them, and bowing down to them. They refused to give up their evil practices and stubborn ways.

  • Neh 9:16-37 : 16 But they, our ancestors, acted arrogantly. They stiffened their necks and did not obey Your commandments. 17 They refused to listen and did not remember the wonders You performed among them. They stiffened their necks and appointed a leader to return to their slavery in Egypt. But You are a forgiving God, gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abundant in faithful love, and You did not abandon them. 18 Even when they made a molten calf for themselves and said, 'This is your god who brought you out of Egypt,' and they committed terrible blasphemies, 19 You, in Your great mercy, did not abandon them in the wilderness. During the day, the pillar of cloud did not depart to guide them on their way, nor did the pillar of fire by night to give them light for the path they should take. 20 You gave Your good Spirit to instruct them. You did not withhold manna from their mouths, and You provided water for their thirst. 21 For forty years You sustained them in the wilderness; they lacked nothing. Their clothes did not wear out, and their feet did not swell. 22 You gave them kingdoms and nations, dividing them into regions. They took possession of the land of Sihon, the land of the king of Heshbon, and the land of Og, king of Bashan. 23 You multiplied their descendants like the stars of heaven and brought them to the land You had promised their ancestors they would enter and take possession of. 24 Their descendants went in and took possession of the land. You subdued the inhabitants of the land—the Canaanites—before them and handed their kings and the peoples of the land over to them, to do with as they desired. 25 They captured fortified cities and fertile land. They took possession of houses filled with every good thing, hewn cisterns, vineyards, olive groves, and fruit trees in abundance. They ate, were satisfied, grew fat, and delighted themselves in Your great goodness. 26 But they were disobedient and rebelled against You. They cast Your law behind their backs and killed Your prophets who warned them to turn back to You. They committed terrible blasphemies. 27 So You handed them over to their enemies, who oppressed them. But in their time of distress, they cried out to You, and You heard from heaven. In Your great mercy, You gave them deliverers, who rescued them from the hand of their enemies. 28 But as soon as they had rest, they returned to doing evil in Your sight. So You abandoned them to their enemies, who ruled over them. Yet when they again cried out to You, You heard from heaven and rescued them many times in Your abundant mercy. 29 You warned them to return to Your law, but they acted arrogantly and did not obey Your commandments. They sinned against Your judgments, which, if a person does, they will live by them. Stubbornly, they turned their backs, stiffened their necks, and would not listen. 30 For many years, You were patient with them. You warned them by Your Spirit through Your prophets, yet they would not listen. So You gave them into the hands of the peoples of the lands. 31 Still, in Your great mercies, You did not utterly destroy them or abandon them, for You are a gracious and merciful God. 32 Now therefore, our God, the great, mighty, and awesome God who keeps His covenant and steadfast love, do not let the hardship that has come upon us—on our kings, leaders, priests, prophets, ancestors, and on all Your people, from the days of the kings of Assyria until today—seem insignificant to You. 33 You are righteous in all that has happened to us, because You have acted faithfully while we have acted wickedly. 34 Our kings, leaders, priests, and ancestors did not obey Your law or pay attention to Your commandments and warnings You gave them. 35 Even while they were in their kingdom, enjoying Your abundant goodness and the spacious, fertile land You gave them, they did not serve You or turn from their evil deeds. 36 Here we are today, slaves in the land You gave to our ancestors so they could enjoy its fruit and its goodness—here we are, slaves in it! 37 Its abundant harvest goes to the kings You have set over us because of our sins. They rule over our bodies and our livestock as they please, and we are in great distress.
  • Ps 106:6-9 : 6 We have sinned, just as our ancestors did; we have committed iniquity and acted wickedly. 7 Our ancestors in Egypt did not consider Your miracles; they did not remember the abundance of Your lovingkindness but rebelled at the sea, the Red Sea. 8 Yet He saved them for His name’s sake, to make His mighty power known. 9 He rebuked the Red Sea, and it dried up; He led them through the depths as through a wilderness. 10 He saved them from the hand of the one who hated them; He redeemed them from the hand of the enemy. 11 The waters covered their adversaries; not one of them survived. 12 Then they believed His words; they sang His praise. 13 But they quickly forgot His works; they did not wait for His counsel. 14 In the wilderness, they craved intensely and tested God in the wasteland. 15 So He gave them what they asked for but sent leanness into their souls. 16 They envied Moses in the camp, and Aaron, the holy one of the LORD. 17 The earth opened up and swallowed Dathan; it covered the company of Abiram. 18 Fire blazed among their company; flames consumed the wicked. 19 They made a calf at Horeb and worshiped a cast image. 20 They exchanged their glory for the image of an ox that eats grass. 21 They forgot God their Savior, who did great things in Egypt, 22 wondrous works in the land of Ham, and awesome deeds at the Red Sea. 23 So He said He would destroy them had not Moses, His chosen one, stood in the breach before Him to turn His wrath away from destroying them. 24 But they despised the pleasant land; they did not believe His promise. 25 They grumbled in their tents and did not listen to the voice of the LORD. 26 Therefore, He raised His hand against them to make them fall in the wilderness, 27 to make their descendants fall among the nations and scatter them throughout the lands. 28 They joined themselves to Baal of Peor and ate sacrifices offered to lifeless gods. 29 They provoked the LORD to anger by their deeds, and a plague broke out among them. 30 Then Phinehas stood up and intervened, and the plague was stopped. 31 It was credited to him as righteousness for all generations to come. 32 By the waters of Meribah, they angered the LORD, and trouble came to Moses because of them; 33 for they rebelled against His Spirit, and he spoke rashly with his lips. 34 They did not destroy the peoples as the LORD had commanded them, 35 but they mingled with the nations and adopted their ways. 36 They worshiped their idols, which became a snare to them. 37 They sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons. 38 They shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan, and the land was polluted with blood. 39 They defiled themselves by their actions and prostituted themselves by their deeds. 40 Therefore, the LORD's anger burned against His people, and He abhorred His inheritance. 41 He handed them over to the nations, and those who hated them ruled over them. 42 Their enemies oppressed them and subdued them under their power. 43 Many times He delivered them, but they were rebellious in their plans and sank into their iniquity. 44 Yet He saw their distress when He heard their cry. 45 He remembered His covenant with them and relented according to the abundance of His lovingkindness. 46 He caused them to be treated with compassion by all who held them captive. 47 Save us, LORD our God, and gather us from among the nations, so that we may give thanks to Your holy name and glory in Your praise. 48 Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Let all the people say, 'Amen!' Praise the LORD!
