  • Ps 106:35-41 : 35 but they mingled with the nations and adopted their ways. 36 They worshiped their idols, which became a snare to them. 37 They sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons. 38 They shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan, and the land was polluted with blood. 39 They defiled themselves by their actions and prostituted themselves by their deeds. 40 Therefore, the LORD's anger burned against His people, and He abhorred His inheritance. 41 He handed them over to the nations, and those who hated them ruled over them.
  • Jer 10:5 : 5 They are like scarecrows in a cucumber field; they cannot speak. They must be carried because they cannot walk. Do not fear them, for they can do no harm—nor can they do any good.
  • Ezek 23:2-9 : 2 Son of man, there were two women, daughters of the same mother. 3 They committed adultery in Egypt; in their youth, they acted unfaithfully. There, their breasts were fondled, and their virginity was violated. 4 Their names were Oholah, the elder, and Oholibah, her sister. They became mine and gave birth to sons and daughters. Their names represent Samaria as Oholah, and Jerusalem as Oholibah. 5 Oholah was unfaithful to me and lusted after her lovers—the Assyrians, who were near. 6 They were clothed in blue, governors and officials, all of them young and desirable men, skilled horsemen riding on horses. 7 She gave herself to them, all the elite of the Assyrians, and defiled herself with all the idols she lusted after. 8 She did not abandon the adulteries she began in Egypt, where men slept with her in her youth, fondling her virgin breasts and pouring out their lust upon her. 9 Therefore, I handed her over to her lovers, the Assyrians whom she lusted after. 10 They exposed her nakedness, seized her sons and daughters, and killed her with the sword. She became a byword among women, and they carried out judgment against her. 11 Her sister Oholibah saw this, yet she was even more corrupt in her lust, and her adulteries exceeded those of her sister. 12 She too lusted after the Assyrians—governors and officials nearby—elegantly clothed, skilled horsemen, and all young and desirable men. 13 I saw that she too was defiled; both had followed the same corrupt path. 14 But she went even further with her adulteries. She saw men carved on the walls, images of the Chaldeans portrayed in vermilion. 15 They were girded with belts at their waists, with flowing turbans on their heads. All of them looked like officers, resembling the men of Babylon, born in Chaldea. 16 As soon as she saw them, she lusted after them and sent messengers to them in Chaldea.
  • Hos 4:1-3 : 1 Hear the word of the LORD, O people of Israel! For the LORD has a charge against the inhabitants of the land: there is no truth, no steadfast love, and no knowledge of God in the land. 2 There is swearing, lying, murder, stealing, and adultery; they break all bounds, and bloodshed follows bloodshed. 3 Therefore the land mourns, and all who live in it languish, along with the beasts of the field, the birds of the skies, and even the fish of the sea are taken away.
  • Hos 8:5-9 : 5 Your calf idol is rejected, Samaria! My anger burns against them. How long will they be unable to attain innocence? 6 This calf comes from Israel! A craftsman made it; it is not God. It will be shattered into pieces—this calf of Samaria. 7 For they sow the wind and reap the whirlwind. The standing grain has no heads; it will yield no flour. Even if it does produce, strangers will swallow it up. 8 Israel is swallowed up; now they are among the nations like something worthless. 9 For they have gone up to Assyria like a wild donkey wandering alone. Ephraim has sold herself to lovers. 10 Even though they make alliances among the nations, I will now gather them, and they will soon suffer under the burden of a king and officials. 11 Ephraim has built many altars for sin; they have become altars for sinning. 12 Though I wrote for them the many things of my law, they regarded them as something foreign. 13 They offer sacrifices as gifts for me and eat the meat, but the LORD does not accept them. Now he will remember their iniquity and punish their sins; they will return to Egypt. 14 Israel has forgotten his Maker and built palaces; Judah has fortified many cities. But I will send fire on their cities, and it will devour their strongholds.
  • Deut 31:16-17 : 16 The LORD said to Moses, 'Behold, you are going to rest with your ancestors, and this people will rise up and prostitute themselves to the foreign gods of the land they are entering. They will forsake me and break the covenant I made with them.' 17 On that day, my anger will burn against them, and I will abandon them and hide my face from them, and they will be consumed. Many disasters and calamities will come upon them, and on that day they will say, 'Have not these disasters come upon us because our God is not with us?'
  • Deut 31:29 : 29 For I know that after my death you are sure to become utterly corrupt and to turn from the way I have commanded you. In days to come, disaster will fall on you because you will do evil in the sight of the LORD and arouse his anger by what your hands have made.'
  • Deut 32:15-52 : 15 But Jeshurun grew fat and kicked; you grew fat, thick, and bloated. Then he forsook the God who made him and treated with contempt the Rock of his salvation. 16 They made Him jealous with strange gods and provoked Him to anger with detestable practices. 17 They sacrificed to demons, not to God, to gods they had not known, to new gods that had recently appeared, gods your ancestors did not fear. 18 You ignored the Rock who begot you; you forgot the God who gave you birth. 19 The LORD saw this and despised them out of His anger at His sons and daughters. 20 He said: I will hide My face from them; I will see what their end will be, for they are a perverse generation, children in whom there is no faithfulness. 21 They made Me jealous with something that is not God; they provoked Me with their worthless idols. So I will make them jealous with those who are not a nation; I will provoke them with a foolish nation. 22 For a fire has been kindled in My wrath, and it burns to the depths of Sheol. It consumes the earth and its produce and sets ablaze the foundations of the mountains. 23 I will heap calamities on them and expend My arrows against them. 24 Wasted by famine, consumed by burning heat and bitter destruction, I will send against them the teeth of wild animals and the venom of creatures that crawl in the dust. 25 Outside, the sword will bring bereavement, and inside, there will be terror. It will affect both the young man and the young woman, the nursing child with the gray-haired man. 26 I said I would scatter them and erase their memory from mankind, 27 but I feared the provocation of the enemy, lest their adversaries misunderstand and say, 'Our own hand has triumphed; it was not the LORD who did all this.' 28 For they are a nation void of counsel, and there is no understanding in them. 29 If only they were wise and would understand this, they would comprehend their latter end. 30 How could one chase a thousand, or two put ten thousand to flight, unless their Rock had sold them and the LORD had handed them over? 31 For their rock is not like our Rock, even our enemies concede this. 32 Their vine comes from the vine of Sodom and from the fields of Gomorrah; their grapes are poisonous, and their clusters are bitter. 33 Their wine is the venom of serpents, the deadly poison of cobras. 34 Is it not stored up with Me, sealed in My treasuries? 35 Vengeance belongs to Me; I will repay. In due time their foot will slip, for their day of disaster is near, and their doom is quickly approaching. 36 For the LORD will vindicate His people and have compassion on His servants when He sees that their strength is gone and no one is left—neither slave nor free. 37 And He will say: 'Where are their gods? The rock they sought refuge in? 38 The ones who ate the fat of their sacrifices and drank the wine of their drink offerings? Let them rise up and help you; let them be your shelter! 39 See now that I, I alone, am He, and there is no god besides Me. I put to death and I bring to life, I wound and I heal, and no one can deliver out of My hand. 40 For I lift My hand to the heavens and declare: As surely as I live forever, 41 when I sharpen My flashing sword and My hand takes hold of judgment, I will bring vengeance on My adversaries and repay those who hate Me. 42 I will make My arrows drunk with blood, and My sword will devour flesh, the blood of the slain and the captives, the heads of the enemy leaders. 43 Rejoice, you nations, with His people, for He will avenge the blood of His servants; He will take vengeance on His enemies and make atonement for His land and people. 44 Moses came with Joshua son of Nun and recited all the words of this song in the hearing of the people. 45 When Moses finished reciting all these words to all Israel, 46 he said to them: Set your hearts on all the words I have solemnly declared to you this day, so that you may command your children to obey carefully all the words of this law. 47 They are not just empty words for you—they are your life. By them you will live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to possess. 48 On that same day the LORD told Moses, 49 Go up to this mountain of the Abarim, Mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab, across from Jericho. View the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the Israelites as a possession. 50 There, on the mountain that you climb, you will die and be gathered to your people, just as your brother Aaron died on Mount Hor and was gathered to his people. 51 This is because you acted unfaithfully toward Me among the Israelites at the waters of Meribah-Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin, and because you did not honor Me as holy among the Israelites. 52 You will see the land from a distance, but you will not enter the land that I am giving to the Israelites.
  • Judg 2:14-17 : 14 The anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and he gave them into the hands of raiders who plundered them. He sold them into the hands of their enemies all around, and they could no longer stand before their enemies. 15 Wherever they went out, the hand of the LORD was against them to bring disaster on them, as the LORD had said and sworn to them. And they were in great distress. 16 Then the LORD raised up judges who saved them from the hands of those who plundered them. 17 Yet they did not listen to their judges but prostituted themselves by worshiping other gods. They turned quickly from the way their ancestors had walked in obedience to the LORD’s commandments. They did not do as their ancestors had done.

  • Exod 14:15-30 : 15 Then the LORD said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move forward. 16 As for you, lift up your staff, stretch out your hand over the sea, and divide it, so the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground. 17 I am going to harden the hearts of the Egyptians so they will pursue them. I will gain glory through Pharaoh, his entire army, his chariots, and his horsemen. 18 The Egyptians will know that I am the LORD when I gain glory through Pharaoh, his chariots, and his horsemen. 19 The angel of God, who had been going ahead of Israel's camp, withdrew and moved behind them. The pillar of cloud also moved from in front and stood behind them. 20 It came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel. There was a cloud and darkness, yet it lit up the night, and neither side approached the other all night long. 21 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the LORD drove the sea back with a strong east wind all night and turned it into dry land. The waters were divided. 22 The Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with the waters forming a wall for them on their right and on their left. 23 The Egyptians pursued them—all Pharaoh's horses, chariots, and horsemen—and went into the sea after them. 24 During the last watch of the night, the LORD looked down on the Egyptian army from the pillar of fire and cloud and threw it into confusion. 25 He caused the wheels of their chariots to come off so that they moved with difficulty. The Egyptians said, 'Let’s get away from Israel! The LORD is fighting for them against Egypt.' 26 Then the LORD said to Moses, 'Stretch out your hand over the sea so that the waters may flow back over the Egyptians, their chariots, and their horsemen.' 27 Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and at daybreak, the sea returned to its normal state. The Egyptians were fleeing toward it, but the LORD swept them into the sea. 28 The waters flowed back and covered the chariots and horsemen—the entire army of Pharaoh that had chased the Israelites into the sea. Not one of them survived. 29 But the Israelites walked through the sea on dry ground, with the waters forming a wall for them on their right and on their left. 30 On that day, the LORD saved Israel from the hand of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians lying dead on the shore.
