7The LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
8"Take the staff, and you and your brother Aaron gather the assembly together. Speak to the rock in front of them, and it will yield its water. You will bring water out of the rock for the community and their livestock to drink."
9So Moses took the staff from the LORD's presence, just as he was commanded.

19The Israelites replied, "We will travel along the highway, and if we or our livestock drink any of your water, we will pay for it. We only ask to pass through on foot."

32Moses said, "This is what the LORD has commanded: 'Let an omer of it be kept for future generations so that they can see the bread I gave you to eat in the wilderness when I brought you out of the land of Egypt.'"
