  • Acts 21:17-31 : 17 When we arrived in Jerusalem, the brothers and sisters welcomed us warmly. 18 The next day Paul went with us to see James, and all the elders were present. 19 After greeting them, Paul gave a detailed account of everything God had done among the Gentiles through his ministry. 20 When they heard this, they praised God. Then they said to him, 'You see, brother, how many thousands of Jews have believed, and all of them are zealous for the law.' 21 'They have been informed that you teach all the Jews living among the Gentiles to turn away from Moses, telling them not to circumcise their children or follow our customs.' 22 What should we do? They will certainly hear that you have come. 23 So do what we tell you: There are four men with us who have made a vow. 24 Take these men, join in their purification rites, and pay their expenses so that they can have their heads shaved. Then everyone will know there is no truth to these reports about you, but that you yourself are living in obedience to the law. 25 As for the Gentile believers, we have written to them our decision that they should abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals, and from sexual immorality. 26 The next day, Paul took the men and purified himself along with them. Then he went to the temple to give notice of the date when the days of purification would end and the offering would be made for each of them. 27 When the seven days were nearly over, some Jews from the province of Asia saw Paul at the temple. They stirred up the whole crowd and seized him, 28 Shouting, 'Fellow Israelites, help us! This is the man who teaches everyone everywhere against our people, our law, and this place. And now he has even brought Greeks into the temple, defiling this holy place.' 29 They had previously seen Trophimus the Ephesian with Paul in the city and assumed that Paul had brought him into the temple. 30 The whole city was stirred up, and there was a commotion. They seized Paul, dragged him out of the temple, and immediately the gates were shut. 31 While they were trying to kill him, news reached the commander of the Roman cohort that all Jerusalem was in uproar.
  • Acts 22:24 : 24 the commander ordered him to be brought into the barracks and directed that he be interrogated under flogging to understand the reason they were shouting against him like this.
  • Acts 23:12-24 : 12 When daylight came, some of the Jews formed a conspiracy and bound themselves under a curse, declaring that they would neither eat nor drink until they had killed Paul. 13 There were more than forty who had taken this oath together. 14 They went to the chief priests and elders and said, 'We have bound ourselves under a solemn curse not to eat anything until we have killed Paul.' 15 Now then, you and the council should notify the commander to bring Paul down to you, as though you are going to investigate his case more thoroughly. We are ready to kill him before he gets here. 16 But the son of Paul’s sister heard about the ambush, so he went to the barracks and reported it to Paul. 17 Then Paul called one of the centurions and said, 'Take this young man to the commander, for he has something to report to him.' 18 So the centurion took him, led him to the commander, and said, 'The prisoner Paul called me and asked me to bring this young man to you because he has something to tell you.' 19 The commander took the young man by the hand, drew him aside, and asked him privately, 'What is it you have to tell me?' 20 He said, 'The Jews have agreed to ask you to bring Paul down to the council tomorrow, as though they are going to inquire more thoroughly about him.' 21 But do not be persuaded by them, because more than forty of them are lying in wait for him. They have bound themselves under a curse not to eat or drink until they have killed him. Now they are ready and waiting for your consent. 22 So the commander dismissed the young man and ordered him, 'Don’t tell anyone that you have informed me about this.' 23 Then he called two of the centurions and said, 'Get two hundred soldiers ready to go to Caesarea, along with seventy horsemen and two hundred spearmen, by nine o’clock tonight.' 24 Also provide mounts for Paul to ride so that he may be taken safely to Felix, the governor.
  • Acts 24:1-9 : 1 After five days, the high priest Ananias went down with some elders and a lawyer named Tertullus, and they presented their case against Paul to the governor. 2 When Paul was summoned, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, 'Because of you, we have enjoyed much peace and reforms have been carried out for this nation through your foresight.' 3 In every way and everywhere, most excellent Felix, we accept this with all gratitude. 4 But so as not to take more of your time, I beg you to listen to us briefly in your kindness. 5 We have found this man to be a troublemaker, stirring up riots among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes. 6 He even tried to desecrate the temple, so we arrested him and wanted to judge him according to our law. 7 But Lysias, the commander, came and intervened with great force, taking him out of our hands. 8 By examining him yourself, you will be able to learn the truth about all the charges we are bringing against him. 9 The Jews joined in the accusation, asserting that these things were true.
