But the time is coming when anyone who kills you will think they are offering a service to God. 3 They will do these things because they have not known the Father or me. 4 I have told you these things so that when the time comes, you will remember that I told you about them. I did not tell you this from the beginning because I was with you. 5 But now I am going to the one who sent me, and none of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’ 6 Instead, because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your hearts. 7 But I tell you the truth: It is for your benefit that I am going away. If I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. 8 When he comes, he will convict the world about sin, righteousness, and judgment: 9 about sin, because they do not believe in me; 10 about righteousness, because I am going to the Father and you will no longer see me; 11 and about judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged. 12 I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own, but will speak whatever he hears, and he will declare to you what is to come. 14 He will glorify me because he will take what is mine and declare it to you. 15 Everything that the Father has is mine. This is why I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you. 16 A little while, and you will no longer see me; and again a little while, and you will see me, because I am going to the Father. 17 Then some of his disciples said to one another, 'What does he mean by saying, “A little while and you will no longer see me; and again a little while and you will see me,” and “because I am going to the Father”?' 18 They said, 'What does he mean by “a little while”? We do not know what he is talking about.' 19 Jesus knew that they wanted to ask him, so he said to them, 'Are you discussing among yourselves what I meant when I said, “A little while and you will no longer see me; and again a little while and you will see me”?'
