    7 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Go down, because your people, whom you brought up out of Egypt, have corrupted themselves."

    8 They have turned aside quickly from the way I commanded them. They have made for themselves a molten calf, bowed down to it, sacrificed to it, and said, 'These are your gods, Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.'

    9 The LORD also said to Moses, "I have seen these people, and behold, they are a stiff-necked people."

    10 Now leave me alone so that my anger may burn against them and I may destroy them. Then I will make you into a great nation."

    11 But Moses sought the favor of the LORD his God and said, "LORD, why does your anger burn against your people, whom you brought out of Egypt with great power and a mighty hand?"

    12 Why should the Egyptians say, 'He brought them out with evil intent, to kill them in the mountains and to wipe them off the face of the earth'? Turn from your burning anger and relent concerning this disaster against your people.

    1 When the people saw that Moses delayed in coming down from the mountain, they gathered around Aaron and said to him, "Get up, make for us gods who will go before us, because this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has happened to him."

    2 Aaron said to them, "Take off the gold earrings that are on the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring them to me."

  • 23 They said to me, 'Make gods for us who will go before us. As for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of Egypt, we do not know what has happened to him.'

    30 The next day Moses said to the people, "You have committed a great sin. Now I will go up to the LORD; perhaps I can make atonement for your sin."

    31 So Moses returned to the LORD and said, "Oh, this people have committed a great sin; they have made themselves gods of gold.

  • 22 Moses returned to the Lord and said, "Lord, why have you brought trouble on this people? Why did you send me?"

  • 6 Then Moses said to Aaron and his sons Eleazar and Ithamar, 'Do not uncover your heads or tear your clothes in mourning, or you will die, and the LORD’s wrath will come upon the entire community. However, your relatives—all the house of Israel—may mourn for those the LORD burned.

  • 9 Then Moses said to Aaron, "Tell the entire assembly of the Israelites, 'Come before the LORD, for He has heard your complaints.'"

  • 4 Then Moses cried out to the LORD, saying, "What should I do with these people? They are almost ready to stone me!"

  • 16 Then Moses inquired diligently about the goat of the sin offering and discovered it had been burned up. He was angry with Eleazar and Ithamar, Aaron's remaining sons, and said,

  • 5 When Aaron saw this, he built an altar in front of it and proclaimed, "Tomorrow there will be a festival to the LORD."
