Therefore, the Lord will not rejoice over their young men, nor will he have compassion on their orphans and widows, for everyone is ungodly and an evildoer, and every mouth speaks folly. Yet for all this, His anger is not turned away; His hand is still stretched out.

First clean the inside of the cup and the dish, so that the outside may also become clean. 27 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which appear beautiful on the outside but inside are full of the bones of the dead and all impurity. 28 So too, on the outside you appear righteous to people, but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness. 29 Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You build the tombs of the prophets and decorate the graves of the righteous, 30 and you say, 'If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partners with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.' 31 So you testify against yourselves that you are the descendants of those who murdered the prophets. 32 Fill up, then, the measure of your forefathers' sins! 33 You serpents, you brood of vipers! How can you escape being sentenced to hell? 34 Therefore, look, I am sending you prophets, wise men, and scribes. Some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will flog in your synagogues and persecute from town to town, 35 so that upon you will come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Barachiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. 36 Truly, I tell you, all these things will come upon this generation.
